So all that bright red, looks like it has some texture to it, what is that?
Is that something they put over the wound, is that natural scabbing of some sort, is that just raw muscle meat? I seriously fucking doubt his pinky works. |

i just love the loaded chamber indicator on my XD.
now i think i love it more then i will ever know. such a simple devise, more guns need this. EDIT - the loaded chamber indicator is a nice safety device in addition to the 4 rules of gun safety, so calm the F down, im not dumb enough to rely on 1 simple safety device. |

The indicator on my CZ 97B was awesome, a small rob came up the tinyiest bit, you could feel it in the dark. More guns should deffinatly have them. |

That appears to be more of a muzzle blast injury than anything else. It is hard to tell from the photos given, but I don't think the bullet itself touched much flesh. The muzzle blast from a gun going off is a nasty thing in and of itself, and if your flesh is right next to it when the weapon discharges, you will find out that it can disintigrate flesh and tear giant holes in you.
From the looks of the photos, it is possible that the bullet hit the very edge of the pictured hand, which would tear away some flesh while the muzzle blast mangled the rest. Having been shot myself, I can tell you that it hurts like a mother-******. The mesh pattern seen is most likely the resulting markings of the wound having been covered by gauze. BTW -- This is why when you do a press check, you make sure that your hand isn't covering the muzzle. It is also why you check, re-check, and then check again when handling your guns. Ingrain it as habit to rack the slide back and forth AT LEAST three or four times. That has saved more butts (or hands) than you realize. |

1. WTF is an a grip?
2. ALWAYS check the chamber!!!! Admittedly, I have had 2 NDs in my life time. The first was a blot action rifle. I was getting ready to leave the range and thought the chamber was empty. I pulled the trigger to decock and BOOM!!! I had the rifle pointed in a safe direction and no one was injured. 100% my fault and lesson learned. The second, I had a Dan Wesson 715VH at the range. It has a removeable barrel and I reinstalled with the air gap a little too small. (early on thought it would allow more power to the round with less blowby...DUH!!!!) The cylinder hung up against the back of the barrel and I used the off hand to try to rotate it around. Kaboom and ouch. There was still blowby and I got to pick unburned powder out of my left hand for a few days. It felt like I got slammed by a sledge hammer. Lesson learned, factory specs are such for a reason and never try to manually rotate a jammed cylinder. All I can say is that fortunately, no one else was ever injured by my mistake and the injury I suffered with the 715, was extremely minor. Some pain (went away after about an hour) and some unburned powder that I removed like splinters. Barely any penetration. But, it could have been worse. Now, I am Hyper Uber safe about handling loaded firearms. I always check 3 times to make sure it is empty, use a clear chamber insert and keep the gun unchambered at home. If I NEED to chamber a round, it only takes a second. Better to have it that way than have some one accidentally shoot themselves. Carry situation is slightly different, but nothing chambered at home. |

Thats an OLD wound. NOT FRESH. Not muzzle damage as someone said. The initial round would have taken out the metacarpal and put a hole in the hand. The exit may have been larger but as extensive if he had been hit with a higher velocity round.
That wound has been operated on already and is healing. You can see where they debrided the dead tissue away leaving clean alive tissue. They also covered the wound with a nonstick plastic. Its not bleeding or showing any signs of infection. There is minimal discoloration. I would say that is at least 1 or 2 weeks after the wound was originally made. They leave it like that to heal by secondary intention. It will fill in eventually but will not look too swell. He will most likely get some more surgery if he has insurance to return as much function as possible. He may get a bone graft to support his pinky but most likely its going to be nonfunctional. |
