I had problems with the bolt not cycling right on my 20", found that the screws that hold the bolt carrier key had loosened up. It works fine now that I pulled them out and reinstalled them using some Locktite. I still need to stake them in place to permanently fix the problem. They loosened up because they were not properly staked in place at the factory.

Check for a tight chamber (polishing with 1000 - 2000 grit paper works) and a loose gas key. ETA: SOME Bushmasters are known to short stroke with Wolf ammo and underpowered .223 ammo.

Mine has run flawlessly with everthing I throw at it including WOLF . And I'm not a fanatic about keeping it clean either .

A whole bunch of people in the troubleshooting forum about 6 months ago. They were springing out of the wet work. My Bushmaster barrel had a fairly rough chamber, it looked like they needed a new reamer or something. The gas port was sized properly, and the front sight was installed correctly. My gas key was loose though, so I lapped the sealing surface and applied a sealant along with loctite on the gas key screws. I staked the screws down afterwards just for extra insurance. Last I checked, it finally cycled Wolf properly. Prior to this, my AR-15 no longer functioned as a semi-auto when shooting Wolf. I should have said SOME Bushmasters. I didn't mean ALL of them. That'll teach me not to drink and post at the same time

I love my Bushy M4gery. I've had zero problems (knock on wood) since I purchased it (over 3 years and 10k + rounds threw it). I even have a couple of gas rings that have excessive gap/ space, no issues here.
It's the A2 I bought that pisses me off. The rear sight is way out of whack, needs about 8- 10 clicks to the left to hit anything at 100 yds. There was a tacked thread in the AR disc about this problem a while back. Regardless, they are both VERY reliable. I'm plannning on another M4gery soon. -- VT |

My 14.5" Bushy has just gone somewhere over 9000 rounds, I've had zero problems, My 20" Bushy has also had no problems, it has around 2500-3000 rounds; Both still shoot fine, with no loss of accuracy, at least noticibly, even in the 14.5", and I'm sure both will last a long time, as long as any other quality manufacurer's rifle. Both rifles even fire Wolf fine

Loose gaskey here. Happened at a carbine course but she kept running.
If it had loosened up completely I am sure it would have malfunctioned. Repaired on my own - simple. It has run fine since and I don't think I have ever had a failure with it. |

Almost as good as Colt, so long as the too-short FSB, lack of T marks and M4 cuts isnt an issue. Be warned, the threads on BFI rifles are not ALWAYS square, and when using a suppressor baffle strikes sometimes occur.
Someone had to say it.

I believe the correct term is concentric.... where'd you hear that, BTW? Two of my Bushies both had canted front sight bases, and there were many threads on the issue years ago. Seems Bushmaster sometimes has a bad run. They take care of problems relatively pain free, though..... |

with Bushmaster's popularity, this thread could run the full-40 pages with posts like this. But there are scores of documented issues with them, including many regarding canted sights, FTF/FTE reports, and other. (Its times like these we will remember our friend, Tweak) |

Same problem with mine. That was a QC issue at Bushmaster. Once I identified the problem, sent the part in they turned it around real quick. This was in '01. Once in a few hundred rounds the Olympic SS109 I use locks the bolt forward. |

ill reiterate what I said last night. With any brand you are gonna have those that arent at their best. You could have a wonderful mfr that makes wonderful rifles time after time but every so often theres gonna be a mix up or mistake or something no matter who you deal with. However Bushmaster has some of the most friendly and user friendly customer service I have ever seen or used so if you do have a problem it wont be a big deal to get it fixed.

Source was Kel Whelan at Gemtech. My understanding was that the shoulder behind the thread was sometimes out of square, although it might be also/and or an issue with the threads concentricity. |

When shooting Silver Bear ammo in my M4, the cartridges will sometimes FTE from chamber. It's the ammo though because it does the same thing to one of my buddy's guns. Aside from that, I love the rifle.

No problems.
Ammo fired is mostly 1979 dated PMC M-193, some 1985 dated Winchester M-193, some Federal XM-193, and a smidgin of Black Hills 69gr OTM. It wont hold the bolt back on my 20 rd mags, but they wont hold the bolt back on any of the other ARs I've tried them in. |

Definitely check for loose gas key (shows after about 500~1000 initial rounds)
But other than that, it should be fine as long as you use good magazines. |
