Fortunately for me, my professors (AU SIS) are all center-left or center.  no real lefties, and they are all very careful to present both sides, and give a 'personal opinion' disclaimer if criticising any administration.

I mean I'm surprised.  But then again, I'm in the international security program of a liberal school, not the transvestite rights or NAMBLA departments!  There are very left professors in SIS, just not my program.

even the  anti-Bush tireades aren't anti-bush like teh lft that hannity is targetting.  More like they are/were in intelligence or defense and have legitimate gripes with events under the 43 administration in their particular departments.  I guess I'm lucky.

BUT I did have some undergread professors that would be perfect for his show!

Actually, there is a group of UCLA Alumni who have offered $100.00 to any student who tapes their professor being overly liberal and not giving a balanced view.  The school is pissed and is trying to figure out how to sue them.  Whether it is working or not has yet to be seen, but I think it's a great idea!

So are kids in school to at least try to learn or to provide money-making material to Sean Hannity and his ilk?  I think some folks are forgetting.  This will no doubt cause some of these kids to stir up trouble in an attempt to get the results on tape.

Seems like a good idea but Hannity is using these kids for his personal gain, just like a Democrat would.  It's just that Hannity's followers have already swallowed too much of his Kool-Aid to ever believe it.

How exactly is Hannity gaining anything?

I record lectures, but not to catch anyone in anything. Just to have the lectures so I can learn the material presented therein.

Material for his show without real newsmakers actually having to do anything.  This is good material to keep him going when his usual suspects are not doing anything crazy.

I disagree with it from the viewpoint that I think it will cause some students to incite a liberal tirade from their professor.  If it is unsolicited and caught on tape I have no problem with it.  But when the rant doesn't come as quickly as the kid wants I think some will be disruptive to trigger what they want.  I think that is wrong.  In that case I would fault Hannity for taking the kids' focus off learning and putting it on satisfying his agenda.

The saddest part is that I suspect you've lumped me in that category now simply because I disagree with Hannity's idea (and yours by extension).

To be honest, the kind of professors who would go into liberal tirades in the first place don't need much inciting in my experience.

I think you are worrying too much on that one.

Again, in fairness here, I don't think that the kind of professor that would end up on Hannity's show is really "teaching" anything. I believe he is looking for the Ward Churchill types, the real raving moonbats who are abusing their classrooms in the first place.

I guess, reflecting on my non-liberl arts college career, I never had time to play secret agent.  Between an intense academic load and 2-3 part time jobs I had my hands full.

What are they supposed to learn?  The United States of America is wrong about everything?  Socialism is good?  It is better to surrender that to fight?  If you are not at least willing to consider the possibility of converting to Islam you are a closed minded bigot?  Homosexuality is perfectly okay?

I wish they would stir up some trouble.  Liberal scumbags spewing harted and loathing at their own country should be confronted.  They should think twice before they spout off what ever crap comes into their liberal-diseased mind.  They should teach facts, not their opinions.

So you're saying that his goal is to expose these people and eventually get rid of them?  Then won't he be out of a job?

I don't dislike Hannity.  I agree with his supposed political viewpoint but I don't listen because he is far too tiring.  I don't think, however, he is the pure white knight of these college kids everyone thinks he is.

Can't do it in CA; there are laws regarding recording teachers without prior consent, unless you want the felony charge...

So every professor who happens to even mention something not sanctioned by the Sean Hannity radio show is an America-hating scumbag?  Then you are supposed to whip him/her into a debate and get it on tape?

Your response implies that there are no opportunities to learn in any class whatsoever.  That or you deal only in totalities.  Which only serves to illustrate what I mean.  Quit looking for the Hannity sound bit ein every lecture and you might learn something.

That's part of the problem.
(not your working hard to get thru school - You should be proud of that)
People work hard, all they have time to do is learn whatever it is your professor wants you to know.  If a college professor wants you to write 2+2=5, what are you going to do?  Write it, get your good grade, and move on with the knowledge your professor is a fucking idiot, or...  do you refuse to write something you know is false, confront them, and get a bad grade because you didn't "learn" what the professor wanted you to learn?

Its crap.

No, there is of course room for debate.  I have had plenty of professors who would not tolerate debate.  It was their way or the highway.
Your response implies that there are no opportunites to use common sense.  That or you deal only in totalities.  Which only serves to illustrate what I mean.  Of course there are decent professors out there.

I don't even listen to Hannity.  I work during the day.  I really don't care what he has on his show.

They should teach facts, not their opinions.

That's an awfully broad statement.  So what gets taught in philosophy classes?  Are we to have no more thinkers in the world, just reciters?  Socrates would be rolling in his grave.

Be careful that you don't mean "they should not teach opinions that differ from mine."

I actually agree with that (the principle, not the law)
I had some profs (right wing) who would not allow taping in their classes as it inhibits academic freedom.
Reason being people are less likely to speak their mind if they know they are being recorded.

Hannity is not the one offering the $100 It is a group of UCLA Alumni.
Hannity has suggested taping before but that is to get the proff not some well he said type of crap.
When I been in college I always taped lectures. They were great for review and study, and they even helped at exam time when I was able to let them listen to what they said as opposed to the questions. I respect someone who stand for what they belive even if I don't agree. Many of the profs. they are talking about don't want their comment aired outside the classroom where they have to stand for what they said.
