I think I know why dems have been losing..........

Okay, let's put aside the stolen elections. We should have landslides, rather than close calls. What has been wrong? Why can't we get our message across? We know we speak for the majority of the people, so how come our elections aren't a cake walk?

Listening to Al Gore's speech gave me a duh moment. Schools have been systematically dumbed down, as has our news outlets. Let's face it, the majority doesn't understand 1/4 of the words that Gore used. That may be the reason why the dems are called the elite. We talk over their heads. I have to admit, I had to really pay attention to what he was saying to understand through context some of the words he was using. I cannot imagine what joe average who graduated from an inferior high school could understand.

If the deaf have an interpreter, we may have to have an "uneducated" interpreter. How do we dumb down our dems speeches without losing our "elite"? It is time that we learn how to call a tulip, a tulip, instead of Tulipa pulchella. Until we can bring up the school standards, we have to do our best to communicate on our electorates level. We will continue to be called snobs and the elite until we can talk to the average American as equals. This is where Clinton ruled. Too bad he's too busy to impart his words of wisdom to those who are planning to run, because these people certainly need to reach the common people.

This talking above the average person may be one of the reasons our candidates don't get as much face time in the press as repubs. News outlets do know their subscribers. They want sound bites, not paragraphs that need to be explained.

How do we make our dems understand this? Bush "won" because he could be understood. And, yes, he lied, too. But, people knew what he was saying and they didn't feel inferior to him because he was understood. It maybe that the repubs have gotten this country to believe that using big words is just a way to show off that you think you are better than they are.

I know I have talked to people who didn't like Kerry, and didn't know why. They believed in everything he stood for, but for some reason couldn't vote for him. Maybe the reason has more to do with language than we realize.

Oh, for the love of....

Did FDR have problems speaking to the American people?  Harry S. Truman sure as hell didn't!

Neither did Kennedy.

Are you trying to tell me that the Democrat of today is *so* fucking beyond the "typical" American citizen that they (supposedly) represent that they need interpreting?

Might I suggest the your problems stem from the fact that the Democratic Party is now the Democratic Socialist Party in everything but name and John Q. Public, whether they realize it or not, still have an innate distrust for what you've become.

My Poli-Sci prof said the same thing today. Not because the dems have lost, but because the American people really dont understand what is happining around them. He said that he sees us heading down the road to fascism.

In a way I agree with him, liberals are educated by our public schools and grow to believe everything CNN tells them. When you have a increasingly democratic society and a majority that is easily swayed by media it ultimately leads down the road to an opressive govt put in place by a tyranny of the majority. Thats one reason why the FF wanted voters to all be semi-wealthy landowners that understood the workings of govt.

Democrats often say that they need to work on delivering their message, communicating their ideas.  It never ever occurs to them that they're doing a perfectly fine job of communicating their ideas, it's just that voters reject them.

They react to this by making allegations of election fraud, proposing new euphemisms for their issues, or outright contempt and hostility towards voters. Anyone who offers them constructive and real advice based on scientific polling is ridiculed and ignored, and they instead turn to people advocating Democrats become more shrill, vicious, and aggressive towards their Republican rivals

Their party used to be an honest party, "The party of the working man..." until it got HIJACKED

I still remember how politics was explained to me; if you punch a time clock, you're a democrat. If you OWN a time clock, you are a Republican. It ain't that way anymore. Now, if you WANT a hand-out or if you want to feel superior by GIVING away handouts, you are a democrat. And, I suggest that a lot of them go back and re-read Animal Farm by George Orwell, because I've got news for them, if they think for a minute that the likes of Barbara Streisand, or Susan Sarandon, or George Clooney are going to invite their welfare asses over for little beach parties every now and then, they are sorely mistaken. Their party got hijacked ny a bunch of socialists who see everyone as equals, but then some are more equal than others...

You are totally on target!

Watching a news conference one time, the lib lady got ticked off that funding for her (the?) pet project was not forthcoming.  Her response:

Well, someone has to do it!

Which was pretty revealing.  I thought to myself "Then YOU do it".

Libs like to put everyones ELSES money where their OWN mouth is.  Knowing that would not go over well, they hide it in the 'message' as Sylvan has so well pointed out.

The original premise is quite consistent, really.  If one can't pass the test, then there's something wrong with the test.

Everybody so dumb/dumbed down?  That's the Democrats' doing - Kennedy and Johnson, bringing everyone down to the lowest common denominator.  So, while this person was looking for someone to blame, the answer was as close as the nearest mirror.

I'm gonna play devil's advocate too. I believe the "educated vote" has varied between parties over the last several election cycles. In any case, it is never a huge landslide either way. I think "intelligence" has very little to do with who you vote for. It is more about "values."

ok, you ever think that they may lean left because they were taught that way? Mommy and daddy would cut off their Harvard fund if they failed a course, so they kissed the professor's ass.

It's usually educated people with government or public service jobs lean left.

They've never lived in the real world, and they've never experienced anything but a handout.  A tenured handout, if they're a college professor.  Or a joe-average schoolteacher, in many cases.

I graduated college in '04 with a degree in middle childhood education and in my limited time I have been teaching in public schools, I have witnessed the stupidity of our future leaders. I wish I could say it with a little less harshness but to truly understand the impact Bush has had on our schools, stupidity is the only word that applies. Bush's No Child Left Behind Act did nothing but cripple the schools of our nation and in turn helped him to realize his goal of dumbing down the population.

Yep.

Most school teachers and "education professionals" absolutely loathe the NCLBA because it requires that teachers actually demonstrate COMPETENCE in the subject they teach.

Math teachers needing to know Math!?? Biology teachers needing to know Biology!??  And they have to actually PROVE it!???

Uh! What an utterly preposterous and idiotic idea!

If someone does not immediately recognize the superiority of the liberal, then they are either an evil conservative or too stupid to realize how great the liberal is.

Liberalism is about letting your emotions (rather than logic) be your reality.  It means that you believe that whatever makes you FEEL GOOD *must* somehow be RIGHT.  In other words, it is largely about denial.

One of the ways that the Liberal Leadership controls the liberal masses is by constantly telling them that they are smarter, better educated, and morally correct.  And the liberals BELIEVE it, despite all the evidence to the contrary (remember: they live in a state of denial).

This idiot admits "I had to listen close to understand what Gore was talking about" (read: I'm a moron), so he is convinced that conservatives must be MORE STUPID than he is!  That's the only thing that makes any sense to him, and it fits with his worldview, which was carefully cultivated by the Liberal Leadership.

Of course, the Leadership doesn't believe any of that crap (at least, most of them don't), but they know that it's an effective tool to gain and keep themselves in power.  Except that, now, finally, enough of America has seen through their message and recognizes the fraud that it is.

Liberals run the education system, and it is they that have systematically lowered standards across the board as well as removed as much information about the running of our government from the curriculum.  No one really disputes this fact when discussed as a separate issue, but somehow education problems become the fault of *conservatives* whenever a liberal thinks that things aren't going right.

Enough US voters are tired of the blame game that the Democrats keep losing again and again, and yet they still can't figure it out.  They know they can't tell the voters what they REALLY want to do, because the majority wouldn't stand for it.  And so they don't really have an alternative plan to offer, so all they can do is criticize the plans of conservatives, WITHOUT offering a viable alternative in most cases.

And so, they will keep losing, unless the conservatives decide to grab defeat from the jaws of victory (Bob Dole, etc.).

That's probably the best summation I've seen of what is at the core of what we term a liberal.

Myself I KNOW I don't have all the answers, don't WANT to impose my way of thinking on others and sure as hell don't want the responsibility of telling others how they should live their lives.

I want to be left the hell alone.  I would ask for help beyond my friends in only the MOST DIRE circumstances.  To be in any way MORE regulated and controlled by government than we are now makes me furious to the point of being ill.

I guess there's not much a middle ground.  The liberals don't understand any sort of boundaries where enough is enough.  They think that if a little bit is good then a whole shit load must be great since they have ALL the answers.

I'd stay that would go a long way to explaining their lemming-like drive off the left side of the cliff.
