Mom holding 1-year-old raped at gas station

Suspect description: Latino male, age 35 to 40, 6 feet, 1 inch, muscular build, short black hair and brown eyes

This is a police sketch of the rape suspect.

A woman who stopped at a Cottonwood Heights gas station around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday was raped on a restroom floor as she held her 1-year-old son in her arms and her 3-year-old daughter looked on.

The 21-year-old woman stopped at the Phillips 66 at 2235 E. Fort Union Blvd. after her daughter said she needed a restroom, said Salt Lake County sheriff's spokesman Paul Jaroscak.

The woman checked to make sure the restroom door was open, then returned to her car, got her two children and went back in, Jaroscak said. There, a man was waiting for her.

"He told her not to scream, not to flee, or he would hurt the 3-year-old," Jaroscak said.

The woman did not struggle, all of the while holding her 1-year-old son in her arms, he said. After the man left, the woman stayed in the restroom with her children for several minutes. She did not see which direction he left, or if he had a car.

Traumatized and frightened, the woman reported the incident Wednesday after a friend or family member encouraged her to contact police, Jaroscak said.

Her alleged attacker is described as a Latino male who is between 35 and 40 years old; he is about 6 feet, 1 inch tall, with a muscular build, short black hair, brown eyes and a teardrop tattoo near the corner of one of his eyes.

The man was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans, a navy blue baseball cap and black shoes with a red line on the side. He speaks English with a heavy Spanish accent.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Chad Reyes at 743-5851 or Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office dispatch at 743-7000.

Her first child was born at 18, I'll bet the 'Daddy/Daddys' of both of them could give a shit less if she's alone at 10:30pm or not. The reality is that women sometimes have to be out and about with kids even after dark. However they should make sure they have the ability to effect a just punishment there on the scene rather than have to sit and cry on a bathroom floor.

PLYMOUTH-- Last Saturday evening, as holiday shoppers bustled about in the parking lot of a Framingham Wal-Mart, a woman and her toddler strolled to their car.

Suddenly, authorities say, Evandro S. Doirado struck.

With 13-inch knife in hand, authorities say, he pounced on them, forcing the pair into her car.

Within minutes, Doirado forced the woman to drive to an adjacent parking lot and sexually assaulted her in the car in front of her 2-year-old son, authorities said.

They then drove to a seaside Plymouth motel room where he repeatedly raped her while her son cowered at the bedside, authorities said.

Her torment ended only after Doirado took her to buy beer at a nearby liquor store Monday. She mouthed ''help me" to a customer, then mouthed the name of the motel to a store clerk, who called police, authorities said.

Doirado, 28, of Framingham, was arraigned yesterday in Plymouth District Court on numerous rape and assault charges, and is being held without bail. At a court hearing scheduled for Friday, prosecutors plan to ask a judge to hold him for 60 days without bail because they consider Doirado a public danger.

''This is random; they didn't know each other," said Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz. ''The complete randomness, that's what's scary. It could have happened to anyone."

He added: ''When you do this with a child in the room, you are an evil person. There's no way around it."

The woman and her child did not suffer other serious physical harm, but are psychologically traumatized, Plymouth police said.

Authorities praised the woman's quick thinking in the liquor store.

''Obviously, the woman did a tremendous job in saving her own life and her child's life," Cruz said. ''There's really no rhyme or reason for acts like this."

The attack, said authorities, began on Saturday night in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart. Doirado had wandered there, Framingham police say, after he attacked a man.

At about 8:30 p.m., Doirado ''was involved in a drug deal with another individual," said Lieutenant Vincent C. Alfano. ''An altercation ensued, and he ended up stabbing that individual."

Alfano identified the stabbing victim as Roberto Cornejo, 34, of Natick, who was not seriously injured. Doirado stole Cornejo's car, then headed to Wal-Mart about 9 p.m., Alfano said.

''He randomly picked a victim who was a 25-year-old female who he saw putting her 2-year-old son into her car," Alfano said. ''This was random. He did not know her."

Alfano added that Framingham police also plan to file charges against Doirado for the stabbing.

With the woman at the wheel, they drove to an adjacent apartment complex parking lot where there were fewer people and less lighting, then raped her, according to court documents. Her child sat there, looking on, authorities said.
The woman and her child were not identified by police because she is the victim of an alleged sexual offense.

They drove on to Natick, where Doirado raped her again, according to court documents. He also forced her to withdraw money from an automated teller machine, police said.

They stopped at a McDonald's in Hanover and then drove to the 66-room Pilgrim Sands Motel in Plymouth, where a clerk at the front desk interviewed yesterday said the staff there did not notice anything unusual.

In Framingham, Doirado's father and the woman's family filed separate missing persons reports with police late Saturday and early Sunday morning. At that time, police did not connect the two reports, Alfano said.

Inside the motel, the woman's misery continued.

Doirado allegedly threatened to stab the woman and her son to death if they made loud noises. The man intermittently raped her all day Sunday, said authorities. He would cover himself with a bed sheet as he assaulted her, according to court documents.

The little boy tried to curl up with his mother during one rape, police said. Doirado threatened to kill him, prompting the mother to quickly move her son to the other bed in the room.

On Monday at about 6 p.m., they went to Bradford's Liquors just over a mile from the hotel. Lacking identification, they were denied alcohol during their first visit, said store employees. They returned three hours later, Doirado standing at the entrance as the woman tried to buy him beer.

She quietly asked a customer for help, who then told a woman working the cash register of the plea, said Maryanne Heslin, the store's owner. The woman mouthed ''help me" and ''Pilgrim Sands" to the same clerk, Heslin said.

As the car pulled away, the clerk and another worker jotted down the license plate and called police, who intercepted the car at the motel, where Doirado was arrested. He has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of aggravated rape, two counts of threat to commit crime, kidnapping of a child, and armed kidnapping with sexual assault.

Framingham police and Plymouth prosecutors were not familiar with Doirado. His name did not turn up in sex-offender databases or other court records, and no prior offenses were mentioned in court yesterday.
