Have you taken it to a shelter or vet yet??
Sometimes pets have a computer chip imbedded in the top of the shoulder. The chip identifies them when a special scanner is placed over the area of the imbedded computer chip. Shelters and some vets have the "scanner". Just a thought.........Good Luck |

PLEASE, if you have a pet and you love it like a family member, PLEASE regsiter the pet and place a collar on it. If you don't want the animal anymore, Please just don't dump it "in the "neighborhood" for saps like me to find. Just makes me want to really meet the type of people who "dumps" domesticated pets. Those people are the ones who should get the needle! Do a web search for the type of animal it is and look for a rescue group. Many times they will take them off your hands. |

Try a "No Kill" shelter. They will take to dog and you don't have to feel guilty sending someones pet to an early grave.

I would suggest micro-chipping also as an extra precaution. It's cheap. Personally, I'm more worried someone will steal my dog, as he is a hunting dog. Micro-chipping gives you a better chance of getting your animal back, if it ever happens.

Pet ownere should take responsibility for their animals. It is estimated that a dog can cost up to(and may exceed) $1500 per year. If you are not ready to spend that amount of money on your pet then you do not need one to begin with.

Fyi, tried the vet, no micro chip, tried all the "no kill" shelters, all booked up and on a waiting list. Posted signs, and while out running would ask people about the dog, to no avail. Dog had to be family owned, shy at first, but very friendly after an hour (dosen't seemed to of been abused thank god) Going to try to "give" him to my parents (they're lonely without me up North!). It just irks me! People would rather "dump" thier pets and "hope" they survive, feeling good about themselves that they didn't have to kill thier loved ones (pets), when in reality, they probably subject thier pet to a greater "pain and suffering" by just "ditching them", and "hopeing for the best".

I think the proper thing to do is put it on someones else's doorstep. Then they can worry about it. You just said pet. What the hell are we talking about anyways. sell it. Maybe it's worth money.

13f, you sound like a good hearted person having such concern for a helpless animal. The world certainly needs more of your kind. I hope you are able to find a good home for the dog.

Semiauto, thank you, "do unto others as you would have done unto you". I have to laugh a bit though because I still have my "kill 'em all, let god sort 'em out" banner still hanging back "home" with the parents for close to 20 years (god, I'm getting old, but hopefully wiser).

I understand your dilemma. My mom endeed up with a houseful of dogs that nobody wanted. Unless things have changed, there are no viable options as far as departments or agencies in our area to help out without killing the animal. Once upon a time, the Humane Society would pay all the costs of caring for the animal for you, but the last time that she called them she was told that they couldn't do anything about it, they didn't help out with strays, and she should take tha animal to the pound. Now what exactly is their purpose/ function if they don't help with strays?

Both of my grandparents live(d) on farms. Two completely opposite schools of thought, two opposite coasts (Kali vs. WV), on how to treat stray/abandoned animals.
WV grandparents let every stray cat stick around. What a mess....16+ cats, many of them not spay/neutered. After my grandfather passed away, grandmother moved. The Kali grandparents...well, they have a well used .410, and lots of fertile ground. I find it odd that folks somehow think that a domesticated animal will somehow return to its roots and survive on its own. Occasionally...yes. Nearly all of the strays I've ever seen have been hanging around people (invited or not). |

You should take the dog to the shelter/animal control. Someone could be looking for the dog and the 1st place they look, is the shelter. Also most people do not keep any kind of tags on their animals. (Bad idea) Most people do not look for their lost pet for long. (Also bad, some owners have found their pet 8 to 12 months later, after the animal got lost from it new owner) With the animal at the shelter, the owner can try to find it. And at the end of the animal's time, you can go back and save it.

reddobbie, the county animal shelter here has a "short life" for the animals brough in, about three days, then killed. I notified the county shelter and informed them that I have the dog, so if anybody calls...
1gunrunner, lets see... a/alpha, b/bravo... that would make f/ foxtrot hey, 13 foxtrot, fire support specialist. Sometimes the people here are real funny... My apologies if I misinterpreted that comment. |
