And what was the coolest thing you got someone?
I'm at about a grand this time around. Probably the most I've spent in a decade. Coolest gift I got somebody: A basket of beer for my best friend who's a big beer drinker. I gave him 12 different pints of good beer. Three small 2 oz bottles of scotch, Glenfiddich 12, 15 and 18 year. Four half assed cheap cigars, the liquor store guy threw them in free. Beers include: Lump of Coal St Peters English Ale St Peters Cream Stout Santas Butt Ephemere Bah Humbug Holy Grail Scarecrow Old Engine Oil and a few others I can't pronouce let alone remember the spelling on. Came out to about $85. I'm all pleased with myself for being so creative.  |

I was under budget too.  Coolest thing I bought someone for Christmas? I bought my 7 year old daughter a miniature version of my beach cruiser bike. It has pink flames!  |

Yeah, totals go WAY up if we start adding employee bonuses. Probably closer to ten grand then. And 4xys2xxs.....5 grand...and THAT is under budget? How many people are you shopping for? Want to add one more? |

Wow, I spent 350 bucks!
Alot of you guys are very generous. I bought a tiny ring for a little lady last year, so this year i spent alot less.

 Too many when you add in all the teachers, coaches, neices, nephews, co-workers, friends...and on and on. So far I'm $1500 under budget. Hmmm... there IS still ONE more shopping day... ...I'll have to work on going over budget as usual

More than some people, less than many people.
Less than I spent on charitable donations for FY '05. The last few months have been good to me, and I try to "give something back." Mrs sleepdr insists on presents for all of our nieces & nephews, which are doubling in number annually.  At this rate, I'll have to start saving in January for Christmas '07.Coolest thing for us? Our first set of living room furniture that wasn't a Sauder kit made of pressed sawdust. Coolest for family? A present for the 2 year-old my brother-in-law is adopting on the 26th. She's had a terrible start and now she has a chance at a real life. |

Got out pretty cheap this year. Under 2k.
The wife and I agreed to spend only $150 this year on each other. We both went over by at least ~150! The little guy always gets the lions share. He is going to have a great Christmas! I can't wait until Sunday. |

Something over $1k that I know about. My dear wife does most of the Christmas buying.
Best gift, we sent a nice package of neat stuff to a hometown young man who will be spending Christmas in the sandbox. He doesn't know the pkg is coming or that we adopted him. One other satisfying gift, we gave a gift card to a family (friends) who have fallen on hard times. He is a carpenter by profession & a severe back injury this past summer put a stop to 80% of the income they were accustom to. He had reconstructive disk surgery a week ago and is pursuing a career in broadcasting when he heals up. |

Several thousand, I'm not going to add it up.
But that includes a couple grand for a new rifle for me. And sparkley stuff for my wife of nearly comparative value. And the really good toys for my grandson (the stuff I'd want to play with) cost some major coin. What the hell, I've been good. ... . well, decent anyway. |

I am afraid to even look at the CC statement. I'm guessing around $500? Traditionally, I spend much more, but with me staying home with our son, we're broke this year. I know I spent more than I should have, and we'll have to dip into reserves to pay the bill. Sigh.
ETA Coolest thing: A wine preserver set for my mom. It was cheap, but I want one, too! |

I spent sixty bucks on dinner last night. Nine course meal plus three Belgian beers. <Burp>
I'll probably have to spend real money when I get back home. Oh well. Probably the best present I've ever given was back in college, when I bought stuffed animals for my niece and nephew. They were little kids at the time, maybe three and five. I shipped the toys in copier-paper boxes with appropriate packing materials including food and water bowls for the Clifford The Big Red Dog (nephew's present), a a sleeping mask for the bear (niece's), and so on. My brother told me that my nephew was overjoyed at his "puppy". Alas, I'm no longer as creative any more. Sigh.

Some of ya'll are crazy. I love Christmas and giving - but I didn't exceed $300. Well - It would have been more except I broke up with my liberal Masstard girlfriend - no loss there. And there was no shortage of time well spent with my family. We used to do a lot more - over time its the friendships and thoughts that count not giant credit card bills. Then too - most people in central and northern Maine are very frugal about everything. To each their own.
