I'm very tempted to vote a Libertarian Party ticket in the 06 elections.  IMO, the Republicans and Democrats both represent the interests of large corporations and not the common man.  I am not a large corporation, I am a common man.  I think the Libertarians kind of have the right idea, but not really.  They don't address the topic of corruption and of the plutocracy that really runs things, so maybe the Constitution Party is where I should cast my vote.

I 100% realize I'm pissing straight into the fan on this, but I don't care much.  Whether the Republicans or Democrats take the day, IMO, both will seek to increase the influence of large government and  military-related corporations.  I am not one of those things, so either one is not really something I want to support.

I'm ready to vote my conscience and not lick the hand that slaps me.  Would the Constitution Party work to close the southern border?  What would they do with respect to the BOR?

According to their website, they want to curtail pornography, and to let the States decide what to do with regards to legalization of drugs.  The libertarian in me says stay out of the victimless crime business, and this appears to be a 50% step in the right direction.

With respect to religion... "We assert that any form of taxation on churches and other religious organizations is a direct and dangerous step toward state control of the church. Such intrusion is prohibited by the Constitution and must be halted.

We assert that private organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America, can determine their own membership, volunteers, and employment based on their oaths and creeds."

I'm not the hugest fan of their Social Security system ideas, but I can live with it.  Essentially, the CP wants to simply do away with SS.  I'm sort of OK with that, but I don't want to see our elderly cast out into the streets to die.  There's got to be a better way.  This is a hard one.  What do you do with a lonely elderly atheist that doesn't want charity from a church?  You're not going to baptize her and change her mind at 85, you know.  I wouldn't want her check to be cut off and her cat food sandwiches to be taken away.  I'd like some compassionate measures to be most firmly in place before cutting out SS.  At the same time, I don't want to be burdened with useless eaters forever.  What to do.  I don't know.

WRT taxes, their platform is as follows:  "Moreover, it is our intention to replace, with a tariff based revenue system supplemented by excise taxes, the current tax system of the U.S. government (including income taxes, payroll taxes, and estate taxes."

WRT the WOT, I can 100% get behind this:  "America is engaged in an undeclared war with an ill-defined enemy (terrorism), a war which threatens to be never ending, and which is being used to vastly expand government power, particularly that of the executive branch, at the expense of the individual liberties of the American people.

The "war on terrorism" is serving as an excuse for the government to spend beyond its income, expand the Federal bureaucracy, and socialize the nation through taxpayer bailouts of the airlines, subsidies to the giant insurance corporations, and other Federal programs.

We deplore and vigorously oppose legislation and executive action, that deprive the people of their rights secured under the Fourth and Fifth Amendments under the guise of "combating terrorism" or "protecting national security." Examples of such legislation are the National Security Act, the USA PATRIOT Act, and the proposed Domestic Securities Enhancement Act (colloquially known as "Patriot II")."

WRT Veterans:  "The Constitution Party appreciates the contributions of our servicemen and veterans to the preservation of American freedom. We shall continue to recognize their contributions to the national welfare by providing equitable pay and benefits to our military personnel, and generous health, education, and other benefits to veterans.

We vigorously resist the attempt by any government agency to nullify or reduce earned benefits to veterans and their survivors, including but not limited to, compensation, pensions, education, and health care."

WRT gun control:  "The right to bear arms is inherent in the right of self defense, defense of the family, and defense against tyranny, conferred on the individual and the community by our Creator to safeguard life, liberty, and property, as well as to help preserve the independence of the nation.

The right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the Constitution; it may not properly be infringed upon or denied.

The Constitution Party upholds the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms. We oppose attempts to prohibit ownership of guns by law-abiding citizens, and stand against all laws which would require the registration of guns or ammunition.

We emphasize that when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have them. In such circumstances, the peaceful citizen's protection against the criminal would be seriously jeopardized.

We call for the repeal of all federal firearms legislation, beginning with Federal Firearms Act of 1968.

We call for the rescinding of all executive orders, the prohibition of any future executive orders, and the prohibition of treaty ratification which would in any way limit the right to keep and bear arms."

In putting together this post, I guess I've decided to vote a Constitution Party ticket in the '06 elections, as they would be the Party that would most closely represent my interests.
