Hi friends.
I finally made it home from the Hurricane Rita evacuation. I was gone for almost two weeks. I live in Nederland, Texas, right between Port Arthur and Beaumont. Right where the hurricane came in.
The town looks like a disaster area. Which it is.
Lots of storm damage.
I lost my big tree in my back yard.
Notice how God kindly placed it right between my two out-buildings. It did not damage either one, but I did lose some shingles on my wood working shop. I also lost a small tree.
Had some damage to roofing shingles and my chimney on my house.
But nothing compared to many neighbors.
The biggest problem was my refrigerator that was full of rotting food for two weeks. (No power.)
Being an ex-Police Officer, I've smelled my share of dead bodies, but this was as bad as anything I'd ever smelled. I had some ground turkey meat in my refrigerator freezer in the kitchen. When I got home, there was a stench beyond belief and a dried pool of blood about 3 feet in diameter in front of my refrigerator.
I did my best to clean it up, but finally just hauled the refrigerator to the curb for the trash. It was hopeless.
I did manage to save my freezer, because it did not have any meat in it.
Here it is, on the driveway, after several washings with Clorox. The Box O' Truth is holding the door open for it to dry in the sunlight.
All in all, I am okay, my kids and grandkids are all fine. Could have been a lot worse.
I give thanks to my Savior.
I wonder if the shooting range is open?
