I have my own reasons.  However, it basically boils down to self-preservation.  Since I became aware of the world during adolescence, I realized that the government can't protect us.  I'm 32, and remember the news reports of child abductions.  Where's Johnny Gosh? (the missing Des Moines paper boy).  Thousands of other children disappear every year.  The government, with all its power, can't put an end to it.  Look at Sept. 11th.  I support the government, but GOD DAMN !
Able Danger anyone.  We give our political support to politicians, and we TRUST that they will protect us from foreign terrorists.  But they failed.  Not to mention the the illegal aliens!  Yes, they are Aliens, and yes, the're Illegal.  Look at the delayed response to Katrina.  The govt. should have gone in a day or 2 earlier.  Look at the jammed highways in Houston.  As some unknown wise man once said, "If you want something done right, do it yourself."  That's why I have an arsenal. To protect myself and my family.

Oh, and I forgot to mention local law enforcement.  We were buglarized several times in the past year.  Living a couple miles outside the city limits, it took the local sheriff an average time of 1 hour to respond.  A lot can happen in an hour.  I could watch an Episode of the Sopranos, I could listen to an hour of the Drudge Report on Radio, or my entire family could be wiped out by a band of crank-additicted home invaders.  All tweakers should be shot!  Mr. Armalite, and his associate Mr. Ruger are always there when I may need them.  Some call it paranoia.  I call it situational awareness.

to bblake00,

I considered using the term armory/armoury.  But then as Savage says, 'It would be intolerant to those of the religion of peace."  We must assimilate their language or they will incinerate our culture.  I believe arsenal is of Arabic origin.

Why should anyone own a car that goes faster than 60 MPH?  After all, you don't have a constitutional right to it!

I probably missed it the first time, but,

Tell us again how many guns are in an "arsenal"?

I own several firearms. I hunt, I shoot for recreation and to keep up my occupational related skills. I also own them for personal protection. My collection is not an arsenal. It's simply a practical hobby.

I didn't think to define arsenal.  I guess I could define it this way- If your house is on fire- (Hypothetically of course), it takes you more than one trip to the gun safe to remove all of your military-style firearms.  When you basically have enough firearms to equip an 3 or 4 person fire team, with both a long gun and a handgun.  Definitions anyone?

What if you have enough weapons to arm a heavy infantry platoon?

Does that count?

Want to get really freaked out.  Turn on Coast to Coast AM.  Their talking about RFID tags.  How would you like every box of ammo transmitting a signal to whoever has detection equipment.  Retailers, government, criminals.  Let's just pretend that those three are still separate entities.
