What was the career you always wanted to have?
Did you pursue it in any way? And what do you do now? For me, I always wanted to be a Marine Biologist or Oceanographer - never pursued it after I got out of school, and am now a Police Dispatcher. |
I wanted a job in the lucrative field of porn my screen name BUCK NAKED
Now I am a contractor for the Navy |
I wanted to be a:
chopper pilot Marine Biologist naturalist park ranger now i just play with monkeys |
Wanted to be a Pilot. Did some flying but not for long. Worked installing electronic warfare training devices, then computers, management.
I wanted to be President of the United States...or at least an astronaut.
But I grew up and figured out that wasn't going to happen so I became a Civil Engineer |
I always thought it would be cool to be a police dispatcher or to manage radio equipment for some Law Enforcment departments.
Now I have a degree in Electrical Engineering and I draw pictures of lighting layouts and conduit runs for other people to build. I hate it, but that is not related to the "what" part of what I am doing. If I could find another job for the same pay I would walk out tommorrow. Dan |
I always wanted to be a "Rock Star"
"Money for nothing and chicks for free.." |
I did that for 9 months out of college, just to get to Dallas, then went into electronics because I hated designing water treatment plants and it was not advanced enough - electrical and electronics are totally different applications of "electrical engineering". |

Ever since I was five I dreamed about being a Marketing Programs Administrator. Now my dreams have come true!

My mother tells me that I wanted to be a fishfinger when I grew up.
I tried to practice by climbing into the refrigerator but luckily, it was too small, and I couldn’t close the door. |

I wanted to be an attorney. I was accepted to law school and found out I was preggo with my first all in the same week. Oh well, we have enough attorneys in the world. Now I would love to be paid to run a game preserve in Montana.

I'd like to be Mike Dillon's personal assistant and gun tester It would be hard work playing doorgunner on the side of a huey shooting up targets that dont shoot back.
www.vampirebat.com/war/gatlinggun.wmv Instead I sit here dealing with crooks. On the bright side only 13 years to go I get to retire at 50. I wonder if Mike will be hiring ....... |

I wanted to drink beer on the beach with the Sweedish bikini team. I sent in my application, but haven't gotten an interview yet. |

<--------- See avatar. Play pro baseball.
KC offered me a minor league deal when I was 17 - my dad wouldn't sign - wanted me to graduate HS, then go to the AF Academy. Wrecked my dirt bike shortly thereafter - broke arm in a coupla places - got a big old clump of Cortisone there now - but still play. Spent 20 years in the military straightening paper clips - did a damn fine job at it, too. .Gov taught me a bunch about medical stuff (and paper clips). Was first registered with the NREMT-P in 1980 - maintained until 1997 (IIRC - cards in safe deposit box), so when I came back to the States in 98, figured I'd try to get on with a FD or something. I was too old for that - max hiring was 37 or so - I was 41. Bunch of crap. So I went to work for HEB. They hired me as a Pharmacy Trainer. I could not stand being cooped up in a small area with a bunch of whiney women and spineless men - so I bailed after 6 months. I have zero ability to deal with office politics. Zero. I have worked as an electrician, and first got a Journeyman's license in 81, so I went back to work at that. |
Hey...Me too! I shit you not. I always wanted to be a marine biologist. I love the ocean. I currently live in Kansas....So much for following your dreams. |
I get to play in the woods most of the time. Though life as a forester is sometimes stressfull and the pay isn't great but I have a lot of freedom in my job as well.
See there. I wanted to run a game preserve in Montana and I ended up being an attorney. However, I don't practice anymore. Now I own a software company that makes a borning niche product for health care. R. edit for spelling. |

I always wanted to become a gynocologist.....now I have settled for being an amatuer Gynocologist.
I likes pie! |
Railroad engineer. No I haven't persued it. Should have when I was younger. Looks like a railroad museum is my only hope. Northern Wisc. resort owner would be second. Traveling college cheerleader gynecologist would do as well if the first two never pan out.

A professional hitman
ETA: Nope, didn't pursue it yet, can't find a legal way to do it So now I'm a Human Resources Manager. |
well i had two dream jobs. one of them i ended up with. boy was i wrong.
i wanted to be a computer programmer, well i got it. it was the only thing i was good at, since i was in 5th grade i had been writing code. well move up the ladder to analyst and the director then move back down the ladder to senior analyst. same old stuff after 16 years im tired of the Whole IT thing. i wait for 4 more years to get my retirement at 36. then i will go back to school and do something i want. come on 4 more years. it pays some time to start a job at 16. and work thru college at the same place. Ronald |
I always thought a Human Resources Mgr and a Hitman were the same occupation. HA! You knew someone was gonna say it, right? |

I'm about to get one, I think. Now we'll see if what I think I want is actually what I want.
I wanted to be a profesional de-flowerer. THat did not pan out too well, so I not have a degree in elementary education, and bust tires at the local costco.
Close Enough! |
Yeah, I was expecting it. HR managers are like lawyers, nobody likes them until they need assistance. |

Indiana isn't much better than Kansas =) Now all I can do is dream of Retiring on a nice small yacht. Figure if I can afford it, I'll start in the gulf, and work my way North during the winters, and South to the Keys during the summer. But that's a loooong way off |

Always wanted to be a Cop
Got hired by the college PD, quick process, only a month... Wasn't dedicated enough to get myself into better shape... Academy was a fucking train wreck for me (NOT emotionaly).. went into a state of SEVRE depression, and am now a truck driver... |
I'm halfway there. Ideally, I'd do nothing but trials. I'd get the file about 10 days before jury selection (though I've successfully tried them less than 24 hours after being retained), some monkey would be responsible for placing witnesses at my beck and call, and I'd do final prep and try 'em. That's a lot of my job, but sadly I have to do other things to make a living.
I thought you guys just sat around, made up catchy rhyming phrases, and slept with your assistants! Kidding! I got an offer from the prosecutor here, said that if I'd get my JD, he'd guarantee me a DP job (family friend). I just couldn't bear the thought of leaving the wife for two years to finish the JD. Good on ya! |
Prosecuting in a well-run office is the shit. |
+1 on the hedge fund operative or commodities trader.
or lawyer. Working on that (this weekend is LSATurday for me). Doubt it will pan out though. A friend's dad looked at being a govt hunter in the 70s, but there is a lot of traveling and such. You do get paid to shoot, trap, and poison though. |
I have a few friends that are government trappers. Cool job but not paid well. Patty |
... Sweetie, that's trader, not trapper |
Traders get to shoot, trap and poison? That sounds like its up my alley! Patty |

Yes, but they are subject to strict regulation by the Seeing Eye Cat. |
Are you sure you really would want to be a Royal right now? 18B-Weapons Sergeant, US Army Special Forces. Sounds like a damn close to perfect job for me. If I could get details like close protection of Maxim covergirls, then it would be perfect. |
