I am a Phlebotomist and it happened over 3 weeks ago. I won't know if I am infected for at least 3 more weeks. The medicine is brutal. The dude was a junkie that WE pay for! I am so ashamed of this Gov't ,it makes me sicker. It is in God's hands now. Guys I need a few extra prayers, please.
I do not understand why you are so mad at .gov.
But Ok. I'll pray for both of you. |
Prayers inbound......what do they have you on? Hyper strong anti virals/hep c chemo??? |
dude wtf kinda of a post is that? you need a good beat down for saying something like that
Damn.
I hope it turns out OK for you man. These fucking parasites shouldn't be allowed to put other people's lives in danger. We need a varmit bounty on people like this. |
Actually, it is my understanding that his happens quite often and most people turn out fine. |
You need to get preventative meds ASAP. Rape victims get them just in case the perpetrator has AIDS |

The dude was a junkie that WE pay for! I am so ashamed of this Gov't i belive or interpret this as the HIV guy was on the wellfare or .gov dole or projects (etc.) Sorry about your stick I do ABGs as an CRT and i'm cautious about sticks. One of my worst fears +1 prayer out |

I feel for you! I managed to stick myself in the back of the ambulance a couple of years ago while transporting one of our finer citizens (my partner hit a bad bump just as I stuck the guy and we bounced pretty hard). There can't be many things worse than knowing you may have just killed yourself long and slow like over some POS. Fortunately my guy tested negative on everything (and I always have too).
We had two others get stuck with HIV+ needles in the time I was there and neither of them contracted the disease; supposedly the risk of contracting the disease, even with a blood laden syringe, is about 1 in 300. Still not too comforting I know. Best of luck. |
Good luck dude. I'm sure you will beat it. If I were you maybe its time to write down your story and send it in to the newspaper. Its time for the country to realize what kind of scum these people are.
I think you need to check your 'specificity' meter, its broken. |
Damn straight, get a clue. I'll pray for you sobreka and good luck bud. 1/300. I'm sure you know what I mean. In any event it can take longer than 6 weeks to seroconvert so keep up with your follow-ups. Patients have no idea how much we risk to care for them. Sadly, many are not worth it. |
asshole |
Odds are in your favor (for not contracting anything) but prayers anyway.
not if you actualy read all of the replys, or look at my above post |
Some prayers for you free of charge.
It's ironic, I just got back from my PD an hour ago were we had our annual HIV/Hepatitus prevention training... And yes, from what I understand, the odds are in your favor. |
Man I bet you had a sickening feeling int he pit of your stomach.
Prayers sent man. |
DinkyDow????? I'm really surprised at the fact that this assanine comment came from you. Talk like that is not only not called for, but just out right STUPID. |
I'm sorry to hear that, keep us posted. You'll be fine, though.
I have 3 co-workers that were pricked with either needles or tattoo guns. All 3 are disease free. They all were on the cocktail. It's gonna suck while you're on it but it's worth it in the long run IMHO. |
Thats NOT cool dude! From what I hear the cocktail will make you sicker than hell but it'll kill anything that may have gotten into your system. Any way to get into a different field of work? Keep us posted! |
Prayers inbound. I'm an EMT and had a lot of people around me get stuck. The transmission rate is pretty low. I've seen what the meds do to people. It sucks. Hope you get better.
that sucks man!
this is the sort of shit that made me quit corrections beat me stab me shoot me just don't infect me Im wishing you the best |
Damn, man - best of luck to you. I can't imagine the living hell the next few weeks will be, not knowing the outcome, but my thoughts and prayers are with you.
{ETA} sobekra70 please, please keep us posted about your condition. I'll be praying for you. |
Hope you had some baseline bloodwork done so that if something develops down the road you can show that as of a certain date, you were disease free. Thats what they do around here.
Most people in your situation turn out fine, don't worry too much.
While I do feel bad that you got stuck, and I will always say a prayer for people who ask, you do seem to blame everyone else for your mistake. Take a little more responsibility, I know you are upset over this but don't blame the patient for being sick. This is the equivalent of a cop shooting himself during the course of his shift. |
Damn, brother, that really sucks! Wishing you all the best and i will send a prayer out also...take heart in the fact that as mentioned, the transmission rate is not high in such cases...although I will freely admit that I would be shitting bricks in your shoes!
God Bless |
Man I am so sorry.
My wife is also a Phlebotomist and did her externship in a hospital in jersey, she worked with AIDS patients every day. I swear I didn't sleep the whole time she worked there. I was scared to death I would lose her becuse some low life jumped or lied about being HIV positive. Don't you use a "butterfly" or other protective measures when dealing with these patients? Did they lie on admission statement or to you? I thank God she is out of phlebotomy and never got stuck. I'm praying for you man. jrzy |
has happened to me 3 times before. I know what your going through. On a brighter note very few people in your situation stero convert for AIDS not to sure about the Hep C though.
Prayers inbound.
It IS sad that these junkie motherfuckers aren't just put to sleep... IIRC HIV dosage required for infection is relatively high, so a needle stick might not be a big deal. Good luck and God be with you! |
What are you about 13 years old. I hope you get herpes and have outbreaks often. sobekra70, I will pray for ya, god bless you for the work you do and the risks you take. |
CDC claims transmission rates from a known infected needle are:
30% for HBV unless you have a good HBV vaccine 10% for HCV .3% for HIV Check OSHA's Training for a little more info. |
Keep your immune system up. The healthier you are, the greater the number of units you can fight off.
I prayed. |
I'm sure you'll be fine, take care buddy. We're all praying for you. I can imagine how you feel.
