and this was a buddy of mines project..

Fireman's rule. It's a no-no. Besides, you don't want them DRT (dead right there) as they would stink unless removed. This is not good if you're on a long vacation.
Better to hook the sensors up to a microwave. Cook them and allow them to leave on their own power. When they drop, no one will ever know where they got zapped (literally).
