Quoted: I will be going to Colo. and wish to mail handguns and rifles to myself in my home state of Texas. What is the best way to do this, which carrier should I use?
|
It is perfectly legal to ship firearms to yourself. However, you cannot mail handguns. You would have to use FedEx or UPS to ship your handguns. The cost would be pretty high since they require next day shipment for handguns. Also, since you would be shipping to a non FFL (yourself), you are legally required to notify the carrier that you are shipping firearms.
Here is a FAQ and answer from the BATF website:
www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#b10(B10) May a nonlicensee ship firearms interstate for his or her use in hunting or other lawful activity?
Yes. A person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in care of another person in the state where he or she intends to hunt
or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner. Persons other than the owner should not open the package and take possession of the firearm.
The other question is how are you going to legally obtain these firearms in Colorado if you are a Texas resident?
