I broke down and bought a Fuel 80 last year, great bike, I should have gotten one size larger though. I'm on a 17.5, should have gotten a 19.5".

I bought it on sale at the begining of this year for about $229 I believe. The normal price was about $270. This was cool, right after I bought it I stupidly let some teenager ride it around the block and somehow the jackass popped the chain off, it kind of jacked the chainguard and rear fender. I talked to someone from Del Sol, actually they're made by Haro, to get a price and they sent me new ones for free. It really is a nice cruiser, my brother has a cheap Huffy cruiser and it doesn't ride anywhere near as nice, his squeakes and stuff too. |

That's a good trade, the Y-22 design is outdated.

I just rode it across town and I'm liking it..a lot.  I'm a little sore but not like when I was jogging earlier this year. |

Nice bikes in this thread. I have been riding my bike to work when possible due to the outrageous gas prices. It is a nice 12-13 mile trip. Up hill most of the way home though which blows. Nothing like working in a tire shop for 8.5hrs. and then riding your bike 13 miles up hill.

So for you roadies, how are those minimalist seats? They look cool, but uncomfortable. How do they compare on long rides? Certain butt shapes only? Padded shorts only? I have a Sella Italia, but it has real padding. Took me so long to find a seat that feels good that I am scared to try anything else. obviously lighter, but ?? Trade offs?

Nice bikes guys. A good bike will change your life. And, kind of like the BRD, they will start to multiply. I've had about 10 decent bikes come and go and the trek's have always been solid performers. Right now I've got three of them (6700, Y-22, 9.9) and an old GT w/o suspension. The trail dictates which bike I'll ride that day, the 6700 is a good XC (cross country) and technical bike much like your 4300. I like the feather-light 9.9 for hillclimbs and the full-suspension Y-22 for downhills. Ironically, the plain "oldschool" GT is my favorite for occassional commuting when distance and weather permit. How do you like the disc brake setup?

Well proper seat height and angle is critical in order to achieve optimal comfort, aerodynamic position, and power efficiency. RE: How do they compare on long rides? This depends on how fast the long ride is. The more force being applied by the rider to the cranks the more comfy minimalist seats are. If you’re just a recreational rider minimalist seats are probably not for you. RE: Padded shorts only? true RE: I have a Sella Italia, but it has real padding. Yeah I have a selle Italia flight and san marco and have tried several other brands. I personally prefer the models with carbon suspension systems (as opposed to massive padding) and center hole pressure relief. This combination produces the best combination of optimal comfort and power efficiency. RE: obviously lighter, but ?? Trade offs? Personally I think that the saddle is a bad place to shave grams of weight from your bike. I would sacrifice weight for ergonomics any day. I choose my saddles based on maximum power output and comfort achieved in the most aerodynamic position. |

I'm looking at getting a bike too. My son's been wanting me to go riding with him, but I have a cruiser and I want a mountain bike instead.
I need something really heavy duty though. Super strong suspension, hubs, and crank set. Time to start looking. |

Worse if you'v ever caught the end of a kickstand on a log,stump,root vine ect. Its REALLY funny to see happen though.

I thought about it. I know it wasn't cool to have that stuff on there when I was younger...but I ride a lot at night (I work 2nd shift) so the reflectors might stay on. Kickstand I havn't decided yet, it'll probably come off some time. |
