With the price of fuel now bordering insanity, how many of you are seriously cutting back? I'm talking driving, dropping unneccessary expenses, etc. We're combining trips or not going at all and trying to cut back everything from eating out to running the AC to much. I'm also trying to do more contract work when I can. I see retail price increases on everything coming soon with the increased fuel costs. Is anyone else feeling the pinch enough to scale back yet?

I'm procuring a bicycle. I hate those spandex-wearing traffic-blocking fags, and here I'm fixing to turn into one.
We always become what we hate... Kill me if I ever turn to a liberal. |
I've cut back on everything that I buy and I cancelled my annual trip up to Michigan to see friends because it would cost too much in gas.
I'm driving my motorcycle everywhere I possibly can. On the bright side, it's helping keep my wife from going out shopping.
I'm not cutting back, so much as stealing more. Actually, yes. I also keep a cot, blanket, change of clothes, and other bug out stuff in my vehicle, in case I get stranded with no gas. |
I burn 7 gallons of gas a month going to work. The nearest grocery store is about two blocks away. ... my shooting/camping area is 70 miles away |
Wow. I drive 70+ miles per day to get my family away from the type vermin we're watching in action in NO. That's a requirement in many urban areas these days. |
Some serious cutbacks going on here. No more range trips in my truck, no more boating, may not hunt much this year if things get slightly worse.
I too need a 10-speed or moped. Hell, I bet even those will start to command a healthy price. |
Wear baggies over top, you'll be fine. |
i drive 8-1200 miles per week for work. right now it's on the motorcycle as much as physically possible.
But when it's only 8 you obviously wouldn't care...right? Ohhhh...you mean 800? |
Nah, then he'll be a closet spandex-wearing traffic-blocking fag and feel all dirty on the inside. Just roll up a sock and stuff it in your shorts before going out. ETA: Yes, I wear spandex when riding. And yes, I am cutting back, especially when diesel was at $3.29 this morning by my house. |

I was suppose to head to our place in Rockport, but I figured I would save the gas and some $$$.
Heck it's almost cheaper to fly than drive. |
Wear baggies over top, you'll be fine. You mean he should wear baggies over his baggie? On a different note, I have always been a cheapskate MF. I drive a Ford Escort because i like the economy, i ride the motorcycle as well, have for years, and i own four bicycles! Well, i really only ride two of them, the third my daughter uses and the fourth is still on the bench being overhauled. I have always tried to combine trips, walk or bike locally. I keep my tire pressure up (one really good, easy way to improve mileage), my oil changed and bearings lubricated. I thought everybody did that, so my habits really have not changed that much. I just worry about it more now. |
We're here! We're queer! And we've got Treks! I started riding the bicycle into work more regularly too. Depending on how things go I think I can go about three weeks between tanks. |
Fabulous! You MUST post pics when you get your outfit together! |

I'm going to try to cut back on simply "blowing" money. It's a bad habit i have anyway.
I figure cut back a little on dinners out with my girl, less movie rentals/PPV, stop buying uneccessary DVD's, shit like that. I'm also going to make my frieends drive more when we hang out, lazy bastards. |
I have cut back a lot , last month I made plans to go to Wilmington NC this week , maybe later on this year .
Nope, I'm still spending money like I was on shore leave. Fortunately I can afford to spend and save alot at the same time.

I've walked to work and downtown all week. Well, since Tuesday a.m. when I saw gas jumped 20¢. I had to take my car to the dealer for service this morning, 25 miles away, and this was the first time I ran it all week.
I'm going on a day hike tomorrow morning, with the trailhead about 30 miles away. I'll take my grocery list with me and hit the store on my way home. Then I'll walk all week again. |
Best move you can make. You'll feel like a kid again, cut your waistline, and help your heart. |
no mo' gas ho'ing, doc, dentist, barbershop, supermarket I can walk to....only problem is work 3 miles away push comes to shove mountain bike....
... thinking twice about just jumping into the vehicle and splitting, used to not give it any thought
... but no, I'm not changing my lifestyle |
I am pulling the chip out of my truck and going back to regular after this tank...once it went over $3.50 a gallon in my area I said fk it....the extra few ponies arent worth it.
I've asked the 21 yr old hot rodder in the office to keep an eye out for a low cost commuter car for me.
today when I went in search of a locking gas cap I rode my bike
going to start riding it for everything I can, possibly even grocery shopping if I only need a few things |
I only drive my DD 13mpg Land Cruiser when I have to...make the gf drive her Accord everywhere else. I've also started going w/o AC (not too bad in WA) ....and have noticed a slight improvement in mpg...
I am in Atlanta. I am afraid of more mass hysteria like that which gripped the city on Wednesday. I drive to and from work and to and from the grocery store. No more than that is allowed until the pumps work again and everyone calms down.
+ 1 My sport bike is finally gonna see some use this year. Almost can't beat 30+ MPG as well as being able to go 0-90-0 in under 10 secs. Now I just gotta figure how to strap my AR and Ammo box to it. |
I have a work truck and gas is paid for--but, the minivan for the kids usually runs about a month on a tank of gas.
I have already started spending money that would have gone to gas on food/supplies/etc... |
No more trips home for lunch. I'm gonna miss that mid-day pie treat.
I am searching the classifieds for HUMMERS for sale......
The full sized ones, I hate the H2 and H3 |
Whats the pricing like ? |
I have avoided unnecessary trips; I bike/walk when I can. I'm moving next week close to DC, so I'll be using public transportation a lot and I think my car will feel very abandoned in the coming weeks.
Have not found any yet..... |
Nope. I'm spending more than ever. Cold, hard cash. No credic spending, cash. Gotta save the credic for later, maybe.
I do field service and lately have been averagin 1,000 miles per week. Not much I can do about it. Luckily, even though I drive a Grand Prix, I get 30mpg on the highway. After the gas companies finish looting the country they will have to drop the price down as they will already have as much of our money as the government.

Go to Ebay.com, type HUMMER, then sort by price - highest first. That'll give you a good rundown on H1 asking prices. Click on the left column for COMPLETED items to get high bids/sales figures. ~m38a1 |

I've always been conserative with all expenses. Nothing new here.
Me too...stop watering the lawn and have saved $40 a month in doing so. Yes, between sending $ to the Red cross (which my company matches), the price of gas. We have cut way back, no AC, cut back on steaks, making soups. etc. But I still have my house and family so I'm happy. No honestly I'm Happy. Ok I'll work on it some more maybe I'll even convince me. |
But beyond that - what? Will the situation stabilize and return to normal, or will it continue to degenerate due to the incompetance of a lot of people? |
