With me being a former USMC Herk guy...I was taken back to a few years ago with this pic. Funny thing is I was grunt in the early 90's, I made the 1st med cruise on the USS Wasp, there were no oil and rust stains on the side then

I hope you enjoy.

I was in a Helo Company, I always liked riding in the 53's, but dreaded the (if it ain't leaking fluid it's out of something) 46's.

My fondest 53 memory is in the back when one of our warriors had to pee real bad and had been holding it for a while.  The crew chief in the back found out and helped him to the rear where he proceeded to piss out the back in flight.  We were flying over a residential area in Southern California.  I wonder if anybody felt a sprinkle and looked up to see if it was rain?

I like the 53's myself.  I rode a CH46 off of the USS Ponce and that sucked.  But I rode a 53 up to BIAP and that was a nice ride.

Yes.  CH-53E Sea Stallions AKA "Super Studs".  On the deck at the bow are CH-46 Sea Knights AKA "Frogs", AH-1W Sea Cobra's AKA "Snakes", and a lone UH-1N Iroquois AKA "Huey".  Midships is another '53, aft is a pair of AV-8B's and another '53.

Normally, the '53's would be attached to an HMH squadron, the snakes and Huey's would be attached to a HML/A squadron (Skid Kids), the frogs would be attached an HMM squadron, and the Harriers would be attached to a VMA squadron.  However, when the MEU is formed, the HMM takes over and the 53's, skids, and AV-8's are detached from their parent units and reattached to the HMM.  Pretty funny to see Harriers removed from "Heavier then air Marine Attack" and redesignated to "Helicopter Marine Medium".

Always liked working the 53's esp the stripped down A models. Pic of a Air Force CH-53A hand me down from the USMC ;think it was a 1966-7 made one, it even came with patched bullet holes ! Nothing like getting a mix of hyd fluid and gearbox oil in the eye while trying to work on something on the cabin roof inside !

I was on the Wasp in '98 with the 26th MEU in the ACE.
Wasp is actually an acronym:

We
Are
Serving
Poultry

I took my first check ride on a CH53A, then got to take it to the bone yard a week later.

53s are great birds.

Super Stallions kick that ass.  The hydraulic fuel (leaking) was common on 53's as wells 46's.
It was also kinda un-nerving when you get up and see the pilots looking down writing or reading a book  Think they were Fuckin with us half the time.

Super Shitters are cool.

I was a CH-53D Crew Chief in my first enlistment.

The E models had a bad rep when they first came in service, but they got the bugs worked out and now they are a work horse.

Photos like that make me all teary eyed and nostalgic....

here is something for you guys to see.

in that pic, check out the position of the rotor at the pilots 1 oclock position, and the next one at the pilots 9 oclock position.

Notice one is flexing down, and the other is flexing up?

This happens all the time, with every rotor.  people would freak if they saw how much a rotor flexes in one revolution.

Can you upload the picture to Imageshack or some other photo hosting site for me?  All I'm getting is a red X because I cannot  access any .usmc or  .army website from here in Korea.
