Just heard that the local Navy base is sending LCAC's in to aid with EVAC of the city.

The Navy is sending what looks to be an entire amphibious squadron to the area with a full compliment of helos, landing craft, including LCACS, and supplies. I've also heard the USNS COMFORT is getting underway from Baltimore to assist.

There's a lot of work to be done - they're sending in the right guys.

GO NAVY!

That's funny.  I was going to go in the Marine Corps, I really was.

But when they found out I had an IQ over 85 they sent me to the Navy.

We used to put plywood on our hummers like that as well.  The hoods would crack under any weight otherwise.

what a huge waste of resources.

Cool, after they kill all the looters they can take refuges back with them.

Sounds like they grabbed the next MEU that was working up to go out...

Do they have the infantry on board though?  Or just the boats, aircraft, and supplies.

I doubt they have any Marines onboard. And I haven't heard that they'll be stopping to pick them up.

Looks like four amphibs total. The USS BATAAN (LHD 5) which is moving up from Galveston. USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7), USS TORTUGA (LSD 46) and USS SHREVEPORT (LPD 12) all coming from Norfolk. News footage showed them loading up with supplies while at the pier.

How ironic.  They were built in New Orleans at the Textron yard on the Chef Menteur Highway.

SHREVEPORT was built by Lockheed in Washington IIRC.
BATAAN and IWO JIMA were both built in Pasagoula.
Only TORTUGA was built in Avondale.
