15-year-old burglar shot by South LA woman dies at hospital

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - A 15-year-old burglary suspect died Wednesday, a day after being shot by a woman who told police she returned to her South Los Angeles home to confront a tire iron-wielding boy in her house.

The shooting took place about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday when Mary Ann Talley, 59, returned to her home after her daily walk, police said in a statement. When Talley entered her home, a young burglar confronted her with a tire iron and she shot him with a handgun she keeps for protection.

The boy was taken to a hospital where he died Wednesday, said Officer Jason Lee, a police spokesman.

The boy's identity was not released.

Talley was not injured in the incident.

The (ass hole) Los Angeles County district attorney's office was investigating to determine if any charges should be filed, Lee said.

So when did they start calling a 15 year old burglar with a tire iron a "boy".

He is a boy. He is also a burglar. The article used both descriptions. Sounds like a good shoot to me.

Tire iron in the hands of an able-bodied person = leathal weapon.
Proper response = leathal force

Case closed.

There's a valuable lesson here for other 15 year olds:  If you can get up at 0800 to go robbin' - might want to try getting a job instead.

One more scumbag off the streets.

One more defensive shooting by a good guy to add to the folder of "why everyone who's not a scumbag should CCW"

I think that's a reasonable response in any shooting. If the investigation finds the shooting legitimate, the investigation need lead nowhere.

Any time we shot anyone in Iraq, we had an investigation. (More often than not just consisted of the CO reviewing sworn statements)

great responce

Alot of 15 years olds are hardly boys, I bet there is a good amount of them that could do some damage to a fully grown man

Give it another day or two. There'll be a response from the grieving mother that her boy "was always a good son and never meant to hurt anyone". "Why didn't she just give him the money. There was no reason to shoot him like that".

And the anti's will say, "another child killed by a gun. We need to ban them all".

And the burglar's family will say, " Just because he had a tire iron in his hand and raised it at you didn't mean that he was going to hurt or kill you with it.  sob sob".

A 15 year old is a boy. He might be a large or husky boy, but he is a boy none the less. I doubt the use of the term in the article meant anything other than that since they also made it quiet clear he was a criminal by labeling him "young burglar" etc. Get a grip.

wait a second. A handgun in CA? Did she wait for the proper background check from the county to make sure she was justified to shoot the boy? Did she use the mandatory serialized ammo out of a magazine with no more than a 3 round capacity? Better arrest her, lock her up and throw away the key. Teach a lesson to these gun toting crazies.

This is actually true. The antis' statistics include all handgun homicides, even justifiable homicides by police and ordinary citizens.
