I would like to find something that works like a Gun Vault but looks a little more asthetically pleasing like a nice wood humidor or something. I have decent furniture in my room and these metal shoebox type vaults I have seen so far can be a real eyesore
 in an otherwise finished room. Any ideas?Gunzer  |

I looked for the same thing for months.
This is the best looking safe for a nightstand. www.personakey.com . I didn't purchase this safe because I couldn't find any reliable reviews on it, and because I couldn't determine if it could be securely fastened down. But it was the most appealing of all. (edited to add picture)  I ended up purchasing the Smith&Wesson "VersaVault", and mounted it on a bathroom wall (close to the bed). From what I've gathered, the Mini Gun Vault is the same quality (or possibly better than) the versavault, although I like the versavault. (edited again to add versavault picture, available at dillon precision)  I believe the versavault and the gun vault are a little too big to comfortably mount to a night stand if you are concerned with astetics. Your probably stuck with looking at the versavault, gun vault, or personakey safes. The "gunvault" is shown below.  Good luck, |

Gunzer: I had the same questions several years ago.
I decided that under the bed, right where my right arm would fall, was good enough for me. I went with a simple Simplex lock box from American Security. So far I have never needed to use it in a real emergency... DanM |

Thanks Logem. The personakey is exactly the type of thing I'm looking for. It's kind pf pricy and a little higher tech than I was hoping for. Their website does not get too specific either. Reliability is a big question still with this one.

Hmm.... Nice, but i dunno about $900 nice. I have a full size stand up safe for $660.
I'll have to keep an eye on it. |

I have two of these sentry's and a couple of other gun safes which are a lot more secure but I would built an oak cabinet over one of the cheap ones like the pic.

That personakey looks like a nice unit. And given the tech, the $239 price tag's not too bad.
BUT... We have key overrides on our PD's shotgun locks for a reason... Mr. Murphy is always around the corner. If they could put one in as a backup, I'd get one. |

Does anyone own the personakey vault? Please provide use with feedback regarding this safe. I'd gladly mount this to my nightstand, if I could get some unbiased positive feedback regarding this "wooden box" with steel reinforce corners.
Does it mount studily enough to resist a resonable tug/pull, from a typical male? What is the bypass if the fingerprint code doesn't work right? Or does it always work correctly. How fast is the opening response? Is it best suited for a horizontal surface mount:?? ML |
