TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO, HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA
COUNTY SHERIFF. HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER.

THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) who created the "tent city jail":

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for
them.

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their
weights. Cut off all but "G" movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city
projects.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for
discrimination.
He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order
that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again only let in
the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot
it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If
you don't like it, don't come back."

He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the
jails.

When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he
replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates
were in his jails in the first place.

More on the Arizona Sheriff:

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just
set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living
in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have
been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer
shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their
bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the
week before.

Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their
chests and dripped down to their pink socks.

"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has
lived in the tents for 1 = years. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago
started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one
bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120
degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to
wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your damned
mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a
lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for
their crimes -- not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go
out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers
money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

If you agree, pass this on. If not, just delete it.
Sheriff Joe was just reelected Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona

I dont , do the crime do the time..

The article said that these prisoners get weather and Disney.  A federal court order applies to all jails.  What pisses me off is that some federal judge had the balls to rule that cable television is a necessity for convicts.  A portion of our tax dollars go to a) cable bills for prisoners  or  b) paying fines for not complying with a federal court order to provide cable tv.

I agree with the Sheriff.  If they're murderers, child molestors, or rapists... let 'em die out there.

This is one of the few good things he has done.  The LEO's who work for him do not like him and he has arrested people trying to capture "undocumented immigrants".  Although the DA denied to prosecute the individual.

He was also escorted away from a one car accident recently at a grocery store....  Hmmmmm, totalled his county car in a parking lot shopping.  And I should have said spirited away...

He is a political hack that only does what is popular with his constituents.  As most of his voting public is hispanic, he thinks that it is not a serious iss when you cross into the US without checking in at the border:

http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/local/articles/0413detain13.html
Quote from link above:
Arpaio said he did not believe Haab's actions were coincidental to the Minuteman Project. "You don't go around pulling guns on people," Arpaio said. "Being illegal is not a serious crime. You can't go to jail for being an illegal alien. . . . You can only be deported."

He ignored the fact that all 7 were repeat offenders and one was a coyote.  All 7 were felons at that point.  None of the 7 were prosecuted, just given a bus ride and lunch.

Charge dropped but now US Atty wants a piece of him...  Link above....

And our GOV has now declared it a disaster area....

All politics...  But I do like the prison thing.  Six years ago a woman came to work for me that was DUI 3 times in 2 months.  She spent 6 months in the tents during the summer and now has no interest in drinking.  Complete turn around in her life.

I think deep down, he knows what is right and wrong and carefully measures his actions against the demographics of his voting public.  If he did not need to worry about being reelected, I believe he would do the right thing everytime and we would live in a much better place.

Hell, he'd get my vote.  I agree,  ALL jails should be like this.  Jail is supposed to be a deterant, not a vacation.

I love it.  Show some of the people there they can earn a living at something other than crime.  True rehabilitation in my opinion.

Keep up the good work sheriff Joe!

I've heard that the guy is a real dick.

But I totally support his view of prisons. Prisons used to be part of the deterrent to crime (as were cops and armed civilians), but not anymore. Except Joe's. So there he's doing good work.

A criminal should walk out of prison thinking "I should get my ass in gear, because I really don't want to go back there." Then again, the usual prison laws fuck them there too.

Good They are in jail.  Thay should be treated like shit.  They had to treat someone else like that to get into the jail.  I love this guy.  We need him here in New Jersey.

That's the only one I have a problem with, especially since the Consitution has a prohibition against "cruel and unusual punishment"

But, as long as he doesn't force them to watch it, I'm fine with it.  And everything else is awesome!

I like the idea, but the ungodly 138 degree temp is going to be his downfall.   How long till some overweight POS inmate dies of heat stroke?  Then the ACLU, among others, will sue and sue and sue and sue.  Seems like he's got plenty of good ideas, but all it will take is one heat related death...

Sure soldiers endure that kind of heat, but soldiers have gone thru physical screenings and are in better physical shape then most inmates.
