i just captured a prayingmantis outside and hes now my POW and i was wondering what kinda of things this bugger eats so i can keep him alive tell he talks and tells me were the  junebugs are hiding. help on grub for my new found friend would be very nice thank you all.

Anything other bug they can catch. I saw one eat a huge carpenter bee once.

its late in the season and it will be dying soon.  They are annual bugs only.  In the mean time crickets work just fine.  Very cool insect.  After you feed it for awhile it will let you pick it up and it'll sit on your arm.

damnit id have a picture of my POW for propaganda but damn image shack is down.  i could have shot him he was trying to force his way into my house as i opend the door. ahahaha i got it to work

i didnt have anything else to stick him in.  in the mourning ill stick him in something a little more permanent. named him its now JS for joseph smith cause he just hangs around praying if you will.

Put some water in there and name him John the Baptist. If other praying mantis' form a line to his pen, you'll know it's the right name.

i had a pt mantis once put him in a quiet part of the house pinch off some lunch meat for him and he wont leave that spot as long as you feed him ,and dont screw with him much ,he will stay there till he dies

Every time  find one around the house I leave 'em where they are.  I can usually find them in the same place for quite a while afterwards.

yes he will die no matter what.  They only live for one cycle through the late spring to early fall months.  Its sad I know....*sniff* *sniff* but there will be more.....

They are pretty cool.  Kind of boring if you're expecting him to do ninja like moves, but interesting creatures nontheless.  The lion of the insect world is what they are commonly referred to.
