I got a 4 megapixels digital camera. The pics looks great. I got it about 1 and a half ago it was $200. Now I think they have 5 & 6 megapixels for $200-$300. I would say anything over 4 is good. Olympus , sony, cannon are good

Only if you plan on blowing every picture up to 10X12.
3 is fine for basic photography and the minimum in IMHO.
