NEW YORK (AP) -- Rafael Palmeiro was suspended Monday for violating Major League Baseball's steroids policy, nearly five months after telling Congress that ``I have never used steroids. Period.''

Palmeiro two weeks ago collected his 3,000th hit, joining Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Eddie Murray as the only players with 3,000 hits and 500 homers.

Palmeiro, 40, is the seventh and highest-profile player to test positive under the major league policy adopted earlier this year.

So he goes to jail for perjury at this point correct?

I don't think so. This could cause an investigation too see if he lied and did use them before. But testing positive for them today doesn't prove he used them before, even though we all know he did.

Nice copout: "I have never intentionally used steroids." What an idiot.

He can now kiss the HOF goodbye.

Oliver North is a true American hero, Palmeiro is a baseball player.  There is a little difference

How can that possibly be?  Everyone knows that Barry Bonds was the ONLY person in baseball to use steroids, right?

"I didn't have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky".

A famous quote under oath during a congressional investigation, by our esteemed former President, William Jefferson Clinton.

If a President can do it and get away with it, why can't a baseball player?

No he said that in a TV press conference. And he said Sexual relations.

get you quotes right.  And also get the clinton stuff out.  This is about RP.

There is no difference, it's still lying...I would have done the same in either situation, and it's not like Congress isn't a bunch of lying bastards.

I'm only bringing in the "who gives a shit?" POV.

Who cares if these guys want to use steroids.  Let them if they want, it is their body.  I think the country has bigger problems to worry about than MLB's steroid issue.

ZZZZzzzzzz

Steriods, big deal. Maybe the government should go after the over eating defensive line guys in foot ball.

The days of the true athletes are long gone in baseball....

If a guy breaks the rules of his/her sport, then let that sport deal with it.  Lawmakers have no business muddling in a private enterprise like MLB or any other business.

But I find no real moral issues with an athlete taking his/her body to the maximal performance limit, whether it's by taking creatine, protein powders, or hormones.  It's simply the technological evolution of sport and human performance.  Today's athlete still trains harder and is more dedicated than the athletes of yesteryear.  You don't benefit from supplementation without rigorous training.

The only thing that gets me is this, you or I would get thrown infront of a judge if we get caught with an illegal drug, but the government wants baseball to 'police' it's own?

Why is the DEA not kicking down doors and serving arrest warrants?

I couldn't have agreed more, BUT sport athletes are looked upon a role models by the young,(even though they are super athlete, they are still human). I believe that before he testified in front of Congress he "swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God."

I am CRUSHED.

Congresspersons lie all the goofy time. . .

Wish they would worry about something important and leave the Great American Passtime alone.

Course if they are concentrating on baseball, maybe they won't screw everything else up quite as bad.
