Savages are fine rifles.Quickly gaining a great rep as "out of the box accurate"Probably the best bang for the buck.

I have a Savage model 110 "tactical" in 308, it is great...for the price you can't beat it, compared to the Remington, it was 250.00 cheaper. Get you some upgrades though... trigger is rough at first.

Please don't pay $420 for it. Go down to Walmart and pay $325 for the model 11 package gun. Go home and remove the scope and rings and throw them in the trash. Spend the money that you saved by following my advice and purchase a decent scope. Good luck, and your going to really appreciate the "out of the box" accuracy from your new Savage.

If you are buying new, the Accutrigger is by far better than anything you can get from the others.

My Savage .243 is a real tack driver. My wife put 2 bullet's through one hole @ 100yds. with mine the first time she ever fired it.

I got a Savage .308 36" Hbar bolt-action. Quite accurate (though it's hard to tell since the scope sucks), comfortable and built to last. Only $450.

There is one weak link to the Savage bolt gun. That is the scope mount. Don't go buy a nice rifle and put a scope mount on it with an adjustable screw!!!!!!!
Buy a weaver rail, or one where both rings lock in, and are non-adjustable. Let your scope adjust the point of impact not your scope mount. Other then that knock yourself out.....you can find a savage cheaper than 420 though!!! I was thinking 350.oo good luck and buy a Glock with the next set of funds!!!! |

My Savage 116 wears a Leopold mount and a VXIII scope. No problems with accuracy. Its just getting warmed up at 100 yards, grouping well under 1/2". I have gone under an inch at 300, if I hold correctly.
But then again its custom. .308 Win in a long action, 26" heavy Shilen barrel. |

The savages are great rifles but the trigger out of the box really sux. But any smith worth there salt can make that baby a 2Lb no creep piss your pants trigger. I did 2 today.. Any good solid STEEL scope mount will work well. And get good optics, It makes a big diffrence.

Bought a Savage 30.06 last year. Very accurate right out of box on first day. Haven't needed to adjust sights yet. Very good baseline rifle for the money you spend.

Isn't the Accutrigger STANDARD on new Savage 110's? This is one sweet trigger and anyone can adjust it. That being so, the Savage detractors here need to get with the picture as this trigger is better than anything else out there in a standard package.

My brother in law really liked his 300 mag savage tactical. Im a remington man myself, but if your looking for a good hunting rifle the savage is hard to beat for the price vs accuracy.

Another brilliant statement. If you want to sell one with an Accu-Trigger cheap, I'm sure there are plenty that will line up to buy it. The newer ones with the Accu-Trigger and the improved stock are great guns, and the ones with the Varminter laminated stock put many custom rifles to shame. Yeah re-sale on older plain models is not great because the newer ones are much better. But add the standard mods that most do to a Remmie and you will have a better gun at a lower price. Why don't you go on over to the Precision Rifle forum and ask them there. |

Inexpensive, used Savage 110's are wonderful actions for rebarreling into wildcats. Chambering is a no-brainer as you can do it to finish outside of the action because headspace is set at barreling time.
There is no reason to get rid of a Savage 110 unless you turn hoplophobic. |

I've got 2 Savage Model 12s...one in .223 is the standard model, the other is the "varmint" with the heavy laminated stock in .22-250.
Mine are both pre-accutrigger models. I replaced the trigger on the .223 with the rifle basix, but I was able to tweek the .22-250 w/o replacing the trigger. I don't think the stock trigger is any more horrid than what's on other rifles. I've seen some Remmys that had nasty stock triggers as well. The .22-250 shot several 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards literally right out of the box with factory ammo, once I got the scope dialed in. Savage rifles are a *great* buy, but they don't have the snob appeal that other guns do. |

my 7mm savage i use for hunting shot 1 hole groups out of the box at 100 meters, i have paid 3-4x more and not gotten groups like that, go ahead and pick it up.

I own two Savages. Both are no doubt ugly, but they are both very accurate guns. And both are pre-AccuTrigger models, FWIW.
Extremely tough to find more accuracy for less money. |
