Big +1

I think CSI jumped the shark last night when they snatched the dude out of the boobie trapped grave and dumped dirt on it.

Yeah, and the 3lbs of Cemtex rigged to explode with a pressure switch went of like a fart in church.

CSI jumps the shark with every episode. What a boatload of suck.

ER jumped the shark the episode after Dr. Green died.  It went downhill from there.  It stopped focusing on the relationships between the ER staff and began targeting a liberal social agenda.  (Carrie's lesbo relationship and adoption etc.)  I cannot stand to watch the show now.

What TV series most brutally, blatantly jumped the shark?  Alternatively, what TV series NEVER jumped the shark?

My entry - Magnum PI never jumped the shark.

I disagree.  Magnum jumped the shark several times, but always recovered with a kick ass follow up episode.  For example...the Luther Gillis episodes absolutely suck.  Also the episode where he inherits a fortune and an estate as a joke.  That episode was lame.  But the two worst shark jumping themes were Higgins' twin brothers by different mothers and the episode where the gunmen in ape and pig masks hold up the King Komehameha club.

The writers knew when they had a suck episode, but always went back to the winning formula and brought the show back to earth.

This season sucked.  It is pretty well know that when you add new characters to a show, you are circling the rim trying not to get sucked down the toilet.  They have a completely new cast (almost anyway), the new Doc's have no life.  Entire episodes focus on stupid inane details of a characters life rather than the relationships and hardships of working in a trauma unit.

I do have a sick fantasy about the Indian doc though.

Actually Er has had a lotof jumping moments. How about a frickin helicopter falling on Romano... after he gets his arms lopped off I think the previous season. How much bad luck can one guy have?

The whole continual thing with Abby's mom an brother was pretty annoying.

The romance they have been trying to build with Luca and that chich witht he kid... how long do they have to drag that one through the mud?

But I think the shark jump is Africa simply because it takes a whole portion of a show based in Chicago and take it to Africa to battle war lords and shit... to me that is the epitome of shark jumping when you take the show out of its own element.

It HAD potential.  It sucks EXACTLY as it transpired.
Rocket nozzles which are really little red circles.  A transformation that turned a fairly aerodynamic car into a rolling brick, in the process making it go much faster, somehow, thus getting it back up to the speed it could go in the first season.  What was with that sliding nose array, anyway?

The only way they could have made that any better is if they put KITT and super pursuit mode into a Delorian.

Miami Vice finally "jumped the shark" when Crocket got amnesia and became a big drug lord. Then he "recovered," and turned all his amigos in... and rejoined the Vice Squad, after a two-week administrative review. Oh, he shot a bad cop during that "phase," too.

Other than that stuff, I LOVED the show!

It never materialized as I thought they had pitched it, as a profiler, went more X files ish, understandable since Carter wrote/concieved of it, IIRC.

But, yeah, I missed a single episode, and suddenly his wife is dead and the .gov is trying to kill him or something.

Rockford Files never really had a "shark jumping" episode, with the possible exception of Ritchie Brockleman episodes and "Justa Coupla Guys." I suspect the latter was a lame attempt at a pilot show. Nevertheless, like all things "Rockford," I loved it.

The Simpsons has,  or did a few years back I should say.  When they made Homer completly and indescribably stupid.  Yes it is still funny,  but its on the downward spiral.

Joan of Arcadia just jumped the shark.  They added a male character - the devil.

And sure enough, they just leaked out info that the show will be cancelled and replaced with a show called "The Ghost Whisperer."  They think that a younger audience will be more excited about talking to ghosts than to God.

I was about to say Seinfeld... until I remembered the Susan dying from licking envelopes thing.

How about the original Twilight Zone... not really a jump there.

Another Buffy Jump... "Once more, with feeling".

Married with Children jumped pretty hard on sevral occasions... but that show pretty much blew out the gates.

All in the Family.... a few jumps: Archie's niece; Edith rape (what a weird epiode);

I prefer stupid Homer over post-Tracy Ulman/first couple seasons of Simpsons before Homer's voice was even what it is today. The animation sucked in the early seasons too. The writing, at times, was better but the show really started getting good around what... season 3?

"Once more with feeling" did not jump. Whedon took some remarkable risks in his scripts: the silent episode, The Body, and the musical version. "Objects in Space" on Firefly was a long riff on existentialist philosophy, and the idea that objects had only the meanings humans assigned to them. I think almost all of them worked.
