I was in first class on my way back from Orlando (to Phoenix) and a guy with his family (wearing shorts, ball cap, etc.) walks up front to the flight attendant, and hands over some paperwork. The attendant says, "the Captain is right there." So the guy goes into the cockpit (odd) and reaches into a fanny pack and hands over something. Shakes his hand and leaves.

As he walks past me I see an Galco Medium sized fanny pack with the pull tab out...

He sees me looking at it and covers it up quickly.

DEA for sure.

Could have been any Federal Agent, including Border Patrol, although I am not aware that they need paperwork to carry on a plane. Any Cop, Deputy, etc. on official business needs paperwork.

Nothing like having to tell a dilettante to tuck in his shoulder holster......

Heck, I even know someone who dropped his gun while people were boarding. He should have checked his pulse after that......

Yep, but most federal agents in AZ are DEA. Traveling back from Disney World with his family? I'd bet $100 on DEA. He had the look...

Knowing a little more about this, there are a lot of Federal Agents in AZ who are not DEA. What look? A DEA tee-shirt? Mirrored sunglasses? A rastafarian with a limp?

Whenever I fly with my girlfriend's family, he does the same thing with paperwork (sheriff's deputy), I sit right next to an armed riot-control captain who sits aisle seat so my elbows don't get brushed from the cart

No offense to our LOE's...

But not chumpy enough for Boarder Patrol, and not professional enough for US Marshalls. Kinda in Fed limbo.

I've seen a lot of BP and DEA, this one smelled DEA.

I asked the flight attendant, and he said "I can't comment on that" while nodding his head and winking.

Hey- all you Fed guys on here tell me how you get through security with out a ruckus. I watched a Fed/Air Marshal check in for a flight and I saw his weapon (opened his bag, I was checking in next to him). He got his ticket and headed to the TSA checkpoint, I followed quickly to see how he pulled it off going through security. He had a federal ID of some sort but (as you know if you travel much) he just showed it to the first person at the beginning of the security area. This person did nothing at all out of the norm, just checked his ID vs. his ticket and let him pass. Fed boy then put his bag (with firearm inside) on the x-ray belt and sends it through. I was right behind the guy at this point watching him and the screener for any interaction, acknowledgement, secret squirrel handshake or something.. Screener didn't even look up when the gun went through. I wondered if the bag had a metal plate inside with AIR MARSHAL/Federal Officer inside it so the screener would know. I am still curious as can be about it- so spill the beans for us!

You usually don't go through the TSA security checkpoint when flying armed. The airline issues you a 4 paged sheet when you fly armed. A TSA superviser will escort you around the TSA checkpoint. Prior to the flight leaving, you meet the Captain of the plane and any other LEO's who are flying armed. The Captain get a copy of the sheet as does the airline. Although I have always been booked for regular seating, I have often been upgraded to 1st class. Since I'm not TSA I don't follow any dress code when I fly. I prefer blue jeans and a Hawiian shirt or baseball jersey.

Sure, it was in a Piper Seminole at a little local airport, but still, its an airplane, and I had a gun in my pants

It depends where you are. Sometimes they lose their mind and wet themselves. Nothing like passing a bag with two handguns throught he Xray and then them asking to see it again because they MISSED THE FUCKING GUNS. It was not actually me, just someone who looked like me.
