How can you tell if a Colt AR-15 MT6700 is a post ban or a pre ban? Also, it's labeled as a  Match Target HBAR with a 1/9 twist on a 20" barrel. The 1/9 is a Competition model according to Colt. Is this correct? Wouldn't it be labeled Competition on the receiver?

Thanks.

You can tell by the serial number. Check this site for serial numbers. A new MT6700 is approx. $800.00, dealer cost.

You can tell it's POST-Ban by the 'MT'...

D-Man

I saw a nib MT6700 at the Market Hall gun show here in Dallas two weeks ago for $820.00; they are routinely available for under $900.00.

I'd been looking at one off and on for about six months and was getting ready to get the Market Hall gun (I'd seen it earlier at a show in Mesquite) but found a nice pre-ban version of it on GunBroker.com instead.  The pre-ban model is the R6700.  The pre-ban model I got was about $500.00 more, but it had two 20 round Colt magazines, a national match rear site on it and came with a sling.  The finish was in real good condition.

If you decide to go post-ban and like the price on the one I saw, let me know and I'll give you the name of the seller.

I haven't gotten the hang of pasting url's yet, so you may have to cut and paste.

Looks like it might be a pre-ban. But the serial number starts with PMH00xxxx. Is it possible that the P is suppose to be there or could it be a replacement lower?

The only way to be absolutely, possitively sure is to call Colt directly and ask them.
You can get their 800 number form their web site and call customer service.

They're actually pretty nice about checking it out for you if you call.

All Colt Match Target rifles are postban.

Colt AR-15 banned by name,
Then name change to Colt Sporter,
Sporter banned by name,
name change to Match Target,
too little too late, Match Target banned by name in Kalifornication.
