a little sharper recoil than a 30-06. id say beteen the recoil of an m1 and an 03

NO!!! It may feel worse from the Brass buttplate however but a 30-06 has a whole lot more power. ETA, more bullet weight = more recoil |

Seems about the same as a .30-06 to me, but I have a Mark 3.

It's about the same as any other milsurp, medium recoil. Not heavy, but you best hold the rifle properly. An incorrect hold can cause you to experience more recoil than you should. Be sure to snug it to your shoulder. A loose hold allows the rifle to gain speed prior to delivering it to your shoulder. Bench resting is conducive to a loose hold, so be aware. At about 100 rounds, my shoulder gives up. The Mk7 load (the standard one) is 174 grains, at about 2,600 fps.

I have no problem with it at all, even using 175 grain bullets. And I have a 1917 Enfield, sporterized, that doesn't kick all that bad either. But my M1 Garand gets my attention.
Ergonomics makes all the difference, IMHO. If the rifle fits you, recoil is much easier to deal with than if it doesn't. (Having said that, my No. 5 Mk I Jungle Carbine isn't as vicious as I keep reading it should be, so bear that in mind.) |

a 30-06 to me has more SNAP to the recoil. .303 in an enfeild is more of a hard push. the gun is heavy enough that it absorbs alot of it. Get one. Enfileds are probobly the ugliest rifle ever fielded but damn if they don't shoot well.

no but striker did give me the keys to the new arfcom gremlin today. seems doublefeed finally wore out the yugo trying to be a pimp. |

If you are getting way too much recoil from a Lee-Enfield, you might have a headspace problem. Take it to a knowledgeable gunsmith pronto.

Unfortunately, I've had several, and none shot what I consider "well." My No. 5, on the other hand, is actually pretty good. The one that actually has safe headspacing, that is. |

I’d say it’s reasonably tame in a rifle length SMLE. The .303 British cartridge is one of the milder battle rifle rounds, though by a smallish margin.
I’d put the recoil a step down from mil-spec ammo in a 8MM 98 Mauser, a 30-06 Springfield or a 7.62 X 54 Moisen Nagant. Note that the AIM $89 No. 4 Enfields are really worn and were once in India. Still, for the price they’re a decent deal. |

Or get one with good rifling, and have it converted to 7.62x39mm. I have the webpage for the guys
who are doing the conversion somewhere around here..... With the weight of an Enfield, the 7.62x39mm won't feel like jack! |

Eye of the beholder, I guess.....but apparently you've never seen a MAS-36 or a Carcano. Yucky. The Enfield is very utilitarian, but that has a beauty all its own. Great sights, fast action, 10 shot mag, rugged as hell.....that spells beauty to me.

That's a 1956 Fazakerly, one of the famous Irish Contract unissueds that came in the mummy wrap. It's untouched, came out of the paper looking like that. 1956 was the last year the No4 was produced by Britain, I believe only 560 or so were ever made during that year. |

I have seen conversions to 7.62x54R, which would be sweet with all the cheap ammo and that the 7.62x54R is a rimmed cartridge makes it a pretty easy conversion. |

Number 4 MK 1* owner here. Its similiar to my 30-06. I would say a little bit more. But I also have a lighter stock on it than I do my 06.
Not enough difference to care. |
