Need to know what is the history behing the black and red fire trucks of the Chicago Fire Dept. and what is the green light signify on the right side of the truck? I just need to Know For a report!

Green light signifies a command vehicle. Sorry, can't help with the other.

Red was used historicly for two reasons. One was to make the engine stand out in a sea of otherwise drab colored wagons and early cars, and the other is because way back when, and still today, departments took a lot of pride in having the best looking vehicles, so they got lots of chrome and shiny paint. At that time, red paint was the most expensive so it carried the most "bragging rights".
