I am taking a flight and want to have some sort of weapon to defend myself in case of terrorists. So I know the ol Gun/Knife thing is out but give me some ideas of what I could have that would not look like a weapon off hand but could be turned into one if need be.

A nice belt with a very heavy buckle could come in handy.  Not only can you swing the heavy buckle at someone you can also use the belt around their neck to choke them.  Then once you have them incapacitated you can use it to tie them up.

Not a real weapon Quein. Just something along the lines of a pen that I could jab in achmeds throat or something. That is why I said an improvised weapon. Not something that is illegal. But thanks for your input.

A few suggestions -

You could have your teeth sharpened like the lizard man or grow long fingernails, but I think the best idea would be to get a fake I.D. that says you're Batman or the Incredible Hulk. I hear those terrorist type are scared shitless of American Super Heros!

Good luck and let us know how your flight turns out.

That pen above is probably the best you could do and not get in trouble, even then they might take it away but hey better than just belt.

You can always go with a heavy master lock.  Couple that with a thick leather belt and you have a good improvised weapon.  Dont know how well that will go with the security nazis.  Can't go wrong with a good metal ink pen, I am partial to Parkers.

Just get riproaring drunk before you fly.  If the tangoes try anything, you will have no inhibitions and will jump their asses.  Plus, you will feel nothing at the time.

BTW, loose lips sink ships, If I tell you what to use the tangoes will read it here too.........

It might sound a little crazy - me asking about this, but I am flying out of PWM in Portland which is where some of the 9/11 terrorists started their lovely day. I just would hate to see a repeat when I am on the plane.

I guess an assault pen will do. I can't get my teeth shapened in time. Thx.

Martial Arts are great, but take time to learn and be proficent.

You must also stay in practice, don't use it you loose it.

You can use your seat bottom as a shield if the terrorists have knives.  Stab them with any pen or pencil.  Aim for the caratid (sp?) artery in the neck, or their eye balls.

Also do not underestimate the effect of popping the emergency door at 25,000 feet on any un-belted terrorists.

Sounds like your skeered. Well first poke em' in the eyes using your index and middle fingers, then grab their nose with one hand and hit it other. While the would be terrorist is bent over racked in pain grab a bucket and place it over their head and then kick him in the ass.

Flat based pen.  More specifically, held with the base in your palm with it extending betweenyour two middle fingers, with the hand closed into a fist.

That dude in the Bourne Identity laughed off the bic man!!!

Brains, Belt, Bic, Boots, Brawn?  Check (all but much on the brawn anyhoo)

...but did you ever take a look at what your (!!for example only!!) computer bag might be made of?  Does it have any kind of frame, perhaps a large metal rod that hold the handles to the bag?  Perhaps you own a folio from Solidex, black leather soft side compueter model...well you know the kind.  Also - I have heard that clipbaords in bags are good for holding your stuff, and if your stuff is heavy you can get metal clipbaords for holding that stuff too.  heck, I should get a clipboard if i ever get a new bag.

I don't have a bag, I lost it in a boating accident.  I carry my stuff in paper bags now.

YMMV

But all you praying folks out there - maybe send a small one my way - flying through Dulles four times over the next two weeks.  Never been a nervoud flyer (gold ++ member) but with the election I am actually getting the hebe jebes this trip.

be safe.

A pen very similar to the earlier posted one, held me up for at least 15 minutes in security while the TSA searched for a knife or letter opener in my bag...

I couldn't figure what they were looking for they took stuff out, re-xrayed it 4 or 5 times, tried pulling  the lining out, and all the while the pen layed there, then they put all the stuff back in the bag re-xrayed it again and the girl goes pointing at the screen "there it is!  a letter opener!" they proceed to empty the bag again, x-ray the empty bag .... "hmmmm, its gone now."  she ruffles through the stuff on the counter again and then she holds the pen up to the screen and goes, "oh I guess it was this pen?"

15-20 minutes! almost missed my connection.

I figure my surefire flashlight (which is in my carry-on) is more likely to be used as a blunt weapon, or maybe I could Mcguiver it into a makeshift taser (using the in-flight headphones of course...)

Rolled up magazine will work also well, jam it into eyes, use it to block, or strike ... You can also use a credit card as a slashing weapon in a pinch, if you grip it tightly and whip out you can slash an attackers jugular ... Try it on a watermelon or pumpkin, you'd be amazed at how much damage you can do with a little effort.

BIg honking AC adapter on a wire is even better than a sock full of quarters or a belt with a big buckle.

I also always carry a pair of suprisingly sharp chopsticks with me, just in case they serve chinese food on the plane.

A mini mag lite. Same size as a kubaton. If they start hassling you, tell them its just a flashlight and you want to have it in case the plane crashes so you can make your way to the exit. They dont like talking about plane crashes infront of other passengars, so they'll tell you fine, shut up, and move along. Next time I fly, I'm going to see if I can get my E2D defender aboard.
