How come no one has made any semi auto m249 belt feds? I know they made semi M60's, 1919's and M2's all in semi, do you think they will make M249's?
It won't happen until parts kits are available cheap. 10 years if ever.
yeah, they would be to expensive right now to make |
All in all, a semi-M249 would probably be close to the price of a transferable Mac-10 (most likely MORE). I mean, I wouldn't drop the money on one unless it was less than $1700... But, some niche buyers out there would drool and put other DNA on the rifle - so I guess it's personal preferrance. |
Yea I think they are approx $8k Consider it cost the Military $7k for a FA one, $8k is "decent" |
There is another thread going on about this. Semi's are going for $13k with a backorder. Dealer samples are $55k and up from what somebody posted... of course I know a police manufacturer in NY who has one hanging on his shop wall in full auto as well as an M60... Transferrable are in excess of $100k.
Pre May 86 MAYBE....but 55K for a post 86? Doubtful. My pal has one and I doubt he forked over that much. I will find out and post though. |

No friggin' way Uncle Sugar is paying $7000 for a SAW. |
I can see the allure of a class 3 or dealer sample FULL AUTO M249 (or other belt-feds), but I've NEVER understood the point of a semi-automatic beltfed. Seems a little like having a huge muscle car, and putting a moped engine in it. |
Thats what I recall hearing. I may not be 100% but thats what I recall at the moment. Keep in mind Im still half asleep though |
Hey Id still like to have a semi beltfed, just because its evil. |
yep I think i saw them in a Shotgun news ad |
Thats what I was thinking. |
You sure that wasnt a Shrike AD, I seen a few of them,, |
post samples new from fn run around 7 k semi ones run about 9 if you can find one
The M249 doesn't have any of the 'banned' AW features besides the PG anyway...
Oh yeah, it might have had a FH... |
I keep thinking of joining, off and on. |
I'm with you. But I have a lot of interest in this conversion: www.socommfg.com/saw%20M11%20conversions.htm It's a SAW made full auto by adapting a registered Mac reciever. |
HOLYSHIT thats right down the street |
National Guard, it's the Army, off and on. |
I got to shoot one!!! The round seems alot more powerful out of a 249. Me and my battle buddie were the SAW gunners in basic. Lugged that bitch all over Fort jackson. |
Well good! Trot your ass down there and get us some reviews... I need to know if the thing works! |
Can you loan me $6k and a MAC? I seen some of thier stuff |
I got to shoot, and clean, and carry several... for that price, and only being semi...You all can have them... |
For the 8 years I was in I humped a M249 for 4 of them. Must say the best love hate relationship i ever had. Loved to shoot it. Hated carrying it and the extra barrell. I would buy one, in FA only. Single fire only is a let down to me.
I carried the M249 SAW in the past and use the M240B now. I wouldnt want semiauto in either - its pointless - you just want a REALLY heavy 5.56mm or .308?! for a 5.56mm beltfed - I would opt for the SHRIKE long before I tried to get a semiauto M249. Personally, if I want 5.56mm or 7.62mm in semiauto I will stick with a battle rifle or an AR15. Belt fed semiauto does nothing for me - and I guarantee "semiauto M249" would be extremely pricey - if every available. I doubt you'll see M249 parts kits ever - maybe 30 years from now - FN MFG does NOT sell military parts to civilians - example - the only FN mfg M16 parts on the civilian market are quality control rejects that somehow ended up being sold.
I am pretty certain the Gov't pays about $7k each for the M249's - I used to be signed for 19 of them - and they were pretty damn expensive I do know that. |
Having a belt-fed semi-auto is like being Superman without all the powers.
I'll pass. |
Having a belt-fed semi-auto is like being Superman without all the powers.
i take it that you never ran a crank-fire semi at over 450 rpm? it may not be running as fast as a minigun, but superman would definitely keep his head down if caught in front of it. |
Man wait til the media finds out we are discussing these now.
They will probably claim that they are fully auto, armor piercing, laser guided, strategic weapons of mass murder. Now if they knew we could get one they would be bitching about the BAN expiration again. I think DU / BRADY Bunch probably monitor this place. Anything we want they come out against. Besides elect KERRY and Our sovereignty as a Nation is in jeopardy. But the good News is Islamic Fundamentalists seem to support the 2nd amendment rights, but thats about it. |
Global Security.org has $4087 listed as the unit price, but I'm not sure what year it's from. I read somewhere that most of the SAWs in service are pretty old, bought during the Reagan build-up. I've heard that there are some number of wear related failures on the SAWs in Iraq.
IIRC, a big portion of the high cost is due to the requirement to use M16 mags as a back up. Without the dual feed, it's much cheaper. Here are some websites. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/m249.htm http://www.fnmfg.com/ |
Our F89 Minimis also have the dual feed...even though we didnt use M16 mags at time of procurement.
We are getting some M4's so they may have a use now... |
Like the modern US Army AND National Guard has ROOM for all of us? |
The recruiter will make room for you. Units can be over 100 % strength with no problem. |
Nope it was an ad for SEMI M249 soon to be availible, i dont remember who it was though |
I can easily see over $7k for a M249.
M60s go for approx $7400. How do I know? I ordered 2 of them for our base armory. Most suprising price I saw for a firearm? Bone stock M-14: $148.00 |
thats exactly what I did. on top of that the receiver on my old saw cracked so it got coded out. so I got a brand new 249 now. with the front rail system, a colapsable paratrooper butt stock, m68 (aimpoint comp ml2) and cqb short barrel, it's wicked fun. bwa ha ha ha. if you look at the left hand corner of that picture of the 249 at the gun show you can see the barrel of a m240B. now thats a bad bitch. |
Although expensive, they aren't THAT expensive. That's the price range of miniguns. |
Tax: Whoa. I think we'll have to make a stop on our way to Bulletfest, eh?
...Or perhaps not. |
Only problem is I dont have a Mac, or $6k laying around. That place is approx 20 miles from the house, I can drop by there one day and seewhat I can find for people. |
I'm just telling you what was posted in the other thread... and I'm guessing miniguns are a wee bit more... how many of them can there be in private hands? |
