Although expensive, they aren't THAT expensive.

That's the price range of miniguns.

I'm just telling you what was posted in the other thread... and I'm guessing miniguns are a wee bit more... how many of them can there be in private hands?

The last M134 I know of sold for something in the neighborhood of $275k; there's only about 8-12 transferables in existance.  I haven't seen a transferable M249 come up for sale for years - I'm fairly sure there are less transferable 249's than mini's.  A post sample 249 will run about $5k-7k.  There have been a few pre-86 samples for sale lately (not transferables) with prices anywhere in the $55k-75k range.

As far as the RPD and M249 uppers for the MAC, the project is dead in the water as far as I know.  The RPD version was $6k and the M249 version was $15k...and neither include the registered M11 frame it needs to go on.  From what I've heard, the manufacturer of the RPD and M249 M11 uppers has some legal trouble on another matter and there was also some questions as to the actual legality of the uppers he did produce.  I may be wrong, but I don't think he bothered to get BATF approval before selling them and to my understanding, BATF later declared the upper units alone to be MG's in and of themselves and collected a number of them.

You can't get much rarer than 6.

The Mk48 is my cousin's "work gun," he speaks very highly of it.

Thats a post-sample.  $55k+ will get you a pre-sample.  If you can find a transferable, it'll probably be well over $100k

I know this it not a M249 SAW or a belt fed.  How about a semi auto copy of the US Military's first "SAW", or you could say Squad Automatic Rifle.  The Ohio Ordnance Works M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR).  This rifle kicks ass.

If someone could host a 5mb file I can show you mine in action against a plastic penguin.

I can see the allure of a class 3 or dealer sample FULL AUTO M249 (or other belt-feds), but I've NEVER understood the point of a semi-automatic beltfed.

Seems a little like having a huge muscle car, and putting a moped engine in it.

More like having a one gallon gas tank in that muscle car.
