I did not watch the debate tonight, so I would like some HONEST appraisals of how it went (in the format described in the title).

No cheerleading, no "Bush is my guy so he won" arguments. Try to be objective & tell me who really won & by how much.

Thanks.

I can't rate it that way. But Bush did very very well. No stutters, no staring blankly at the camera. Not as repetitive as last time. In my opinion stating the same thing over and over reflects poorly on a candidate in some cases. He addressed all the questions pretty clearly and concisely and nailed Kerry on quite a few questions. I was proud of how he handled himself.

So Hatebreed, is it safe to say that Bush didn't lose the election tonight?

W - 34
jk - 14

W's defensive line was spectacular with 7 QB knock downs, 4 sacks, and 3 interceptions.
The team jk was only able to score when the W's put in the prevent defense.

I think Bush defiantly didn't lose the election tonight…  He helped himself greatly.

But he did not win the race, no knock out blow.

I'd say it's pretty safe to say that. Last time he was having trouble directly and concisely addressing the "charges" leveled by his opponent. An apparent lack of focus was showing. Not the case tonight. He repeatedly corrected Kerry on his "upper class" tax cut, explained how it related to Joe Missourian and explained "that directly helps you guys, the middle class."

He did a more adequate job of explaing WHY we needed to be in Iraq without just saying "it's alot of hard work" and such. He nailed Kerry SPECIFICALLY on his flip flops and his voting record that contradicts his statements. He handled health care like a champ. I was more on the cynic side with you last time, though not to the same degree. This time I'd say he definitely did not "lose the election." If I was to mark the gain I'd say he performed 300 percent better at least. He was definitely on his game and in my opinion the questions were leaning towards favoring Kerry. Like I said, I was proud of my president, and that's not something you'll often hear me say.

If this debate were a football game..

Kerry would've made 3 baskets, several base hits and 2 goals.

The President would've made a few touchdowns and a couple of field goals.

Bush on his SCOTUS candidates, "One who strictly interprets the Constitution"
sKerry on his SCOTUS candidates, "One who judges the Constitution by the law"

He said by the law, I kid you not!

GWB 35
JFK   10

Kerry certainly didn't look like an idiot, but Bush had passion, conviction and humor (only a little, only where appropriate) working for him.  Bush was HUMAN and connected w/ folks.

For the record, I would have scored the first presidential as a draw, or maybe even 10 - 7 in favor of JFK.  The VP I would have scored 10 - 7 in favor of Cheney.

Tonight was a new dynamic.  My $.02.

What Bush did tonight was to stop the hemorrhaging of his campaign and the momentum of Kerry. Before tonight, the wisper was it's Kerrys to loose, now its anyones guess.  Sure he left open some big opportunities – but he did not let Kerry walk all over him either.

If it were the begining of the NFL season and there were no games played:

The Kerry "ASSHATS" would be disqualified, forced to never play the game ever again, fined 1 billion dollars for stupidity!

The Bush "PATRIOTS" would be declared automatic Super Bowl champs, given ALL of Allah's Virgins, and both GWB and Cheney would go down in history as playing Pinata with Kerry/Edwards on national TV.

I thought both candidates debated with a significant amount more focus last night.  It wasn't as painful to watch as the first debate.  GWB really did improve a lot, and I wouldn't hesitate to call him a winner, especially as I thought he did his best to answer the slightly left-leaning questions while Kerry spent a lot of time dodging the questions.
