What do you think it is?

My vote goes for the internet. It will, and already has changed the way people receive information, and will most definately aid to enhance the education to many future generations. That and it really boosted my porno collection.
Either way I'd like to thank Al Gore!

But seriously. What do you think? Lightbulb? Cars for the masses? Please explain.

Most important technical/scientific/theoretical physics achievement (along with monumental effort to put it into practice)--the Atomic Bomb/Atomic Energy

Most pervasive and most profound impact for ecomonic development--the mass produced automobile

Communications--Television

Powered Flight is in there somewhere--incredible effects on travel, economics, and perhaps the most effect on warfare

Machine Gun--radically changed warfare and the contemplation of warfare regarding mass casualties

I wonder if the 21st century will see so much technical discovery and achievement as the last.

well this thread is heading south, so for some intellectual stimulation I'd like to share what in my opinion is THE most important invention ever:
Writing. Followed closely by the Printing press.

Keep it going though, good responses so far..

20th? Tough question. My guess is refrigeration.

As far as the most "important" invention by man. I vote for the plow. Followed by the wheel.

Oh, and we did not 'invent' antibodics - we found them.

Saying the invention of antibiotics is just as apt as saying the invention of gravity or the invention of blood.

Now, if you broaden the category to ‘discovery’, then fine – but to claim we invented them is BS.
