That can't be right! I was watching CNN and they said that Bush did horrible in the debate and that Kerry won...I expect masses of people to change their opinions and support Kerry now

The author of site just changed how he calculates the polling data. Instead of using the latest poll, he's averaging the polls over the last 7 days. So that means half the data figured into the map is pre-debate data. So don't rejoice just yet.

Going back to 1984, the concensus winner of the first debate, according to national polls, was:
1984: Walter Mondale 1988: Michael Dukakis 1992: Ross Perot 1996: Bill Clinton 2000: Al Gore 2004: Dukakis II, Electric Bugaloo (Thanks Raven) Ask Presidents Mondale, Dukakis, Perot, and Gore: How important are the debates? You should also note that in the polls on who won the debate, the data shows something like 77% of those surveyed claimed to have watched the debate. Right.

Assuming the polls are correct, this is good news, because it shows that most voters are voting on the issues rather than on public speaking. IMO, Kerry won the debate big time, because he looked viably presidential, something he had not earlier been able to do.

IEM has Bush Futures at $.58. Intrade has Bush Futures at $.60. Peope who are putting money on the election are betting solidly on Bush.
Intrade has Republican sweep futures (Republicans win Presidency, retain House and Senate) trading at $.59. Democratic Sweep Futures are currently trading at $.01. That's right: One cent. |

Polls going back to May show a consistent about 50% Kerry, 40% Bush breakdown for Cali. Even a big Bush roll early election night will probably not swing Cali.

I mean who cares if they used a Newsweek poll to reach that conclusion? And forget about the fact they didn't count state by state electoral votes! We all know the popular vote is what really counts. I can't believe you shameless neo-cons would dispute the findings of Newsweek! [/LiberalBiasModeOff]
On a side note, the Pew poll showed the race hasn't changed at all since prior to the debate. They still have Bush up by 7 or 8 points. What's up with that? I thought Pew was supposed to be the poll most biased toward Kerry? |

There are some interesting polls out and they are all over the place... American Research Group (democrat leaning) has it tied, CBS.NYTimes has it tied (big surprise there), Pew has a 5 point Bush lead, Zogby 3 point Bush lead, Rasmussen's rolling average is about 1 point Bush. Of course its the state polls that matter, not the national beauty pageant.

rasmussen says Bush and Kerry now have near favorable/unfavorables... Not sure if that will hold if Kerry maintains his mudslinging by calling the sitting president a liar... not a smart move. State data is due out at 17:00 EST.
