I picked the handgun.  I personally don't care for shotguns, and would prefer the close quarters ability of the handgun.

You can carry a pistol undetcted.  With a shotgun you would have to stay in the house.

What are these 'field expedient devices' you speak of?

I choose pistol because they are much easier to hide and you're less likely to stand out in SHTF Bug Out. A shotgun is far more powerful but much harder to hide if you do need to Bug Out.
If it's a bug in only situation, then I'd choose the shotgun.

No, the correct answer would be a shotgun and a handgun.

Can shoot slugs, buck what ever you want. And you can easy take some one down at 100yds with a slug. Also if it gets dirt its still going to fire,

Normaly I would choose a shotgun, but the thought of having a Glock 18 was just too tempting.

Glock 18 it is.

what are you thinking i'd go for the slingshot, you'd never run out of ammunition
worked on goliath didn't it.
Seriously though, probably be tempted to go the route of some sort of ar 15 pistol variant.  Not a rifle, but could still use all my 5.56 and mags.
Or is that cheating?

Legal as long as there's no shoulder stock (according to the BATFE).

If open carry won't get you in big trouble with the po-po (i.e. they have bigger things to worry about) then I would take a shotgun over a pistol any day.  Similar effective range, but a shotgun is far deadlier, with a wider variety of ammo choices.

I picked handgun, but it really depends on the situation.
If I am in close quarters, a handgun is the easiest to manage, and proably the most tactical / practical....if i needed more firepower....a 12ga slug gun would be my choice.

Too many variable to pick just one and be prepared for eveything
