Shotgun and a bad attitude.

If  SHTF, concealability would be ranked kinda low. Shotgun means business, or stay the fuck away.

I don't see a poll yet so I am gonna take the crossbow with homemade dynamite arrows

I seen that on some old friday night tv show one time...seems like there was a couple of rednecks driving an old orange dodge charger...1969 R/T model   or maybe an electric start chainsaw with a supercharger on it

but if those aren't allowable then I'll just use my Mossberg 835 3 1/2 mag...it'll do the trick...believe it

Really doesn't matter because a resourceful person can always pickup what they need.

Ideally for SHTF, anything but a rifle? Then I'll take a Saiga 12K (but with the standard 19" bbl, for practicality). Would keep atleast a dozen (preferably 20 or so) mags on hand all loaded with varying ammo; as well as a KOBRA or Trijicon red-dot installed.
Most likely (and legal to own around here before any SHTF), a shotty along the lines of a Mossy 590A1 or Remington 1100 Competition Master; but still would be nice to have the red-dot.

I'll use it to aquire a rifle, but even then this is NYC, a very dense urban enviorment, and unless I'm doing any rooftop shooting/sniping (which I wouldn't risk) i'm still better off with a shotty.

Edit: oh, and for those of you saying light-sabre, I'll then take a few goa'uld combat staffs out of the Stargate SG1 realm.

Shotgun.

If you are worried about concealability, get an AOW. - SBR 12 Gauge.

Or, an M231.   Not really a rifle.

No brainer.

Shotgun. I close quarters, just shoot THROUGH the walls. A fist-sized charged of 00buck or any other large shot will do the trick. I was watching the History Channel a few weeks ago and they were doing a piece about frontier weapons. The shotty was the HANDS DOWN favorite. Anyone can do damage with a shotty.

I'd of course use it to work my way to preferable weapons, and personally I don't care about concealability. I WANT  some mutant zombie biker to look at that big, honkin-assed DANGEROUS weapon and think twice.

If I had to choose a handgun, I'd choose a .357mag.

Rifle power and range in a relatively concealable package.
