Quoted: I just got in touble from my boss for looking at guns on the Internet. I know they have the power to make the rules and enforce them how they please, but I have been working here a year doing the same thing on the web. It doesn't interfere with my job, but it offends my boss. WTF? I am one of the best employees here and they have to stir the pot. Especially after we have all just been through the stress of a freaking hurricane and just started back to work today. I just had to vent about the fucktards that run this POS company.

Supervisors, when under pressure, often find a reason to be upset at someone they can exert control over. Similarly, some people think that if they haven't yelled at you lately they aren't "managing" you.
In positions like mine, it is impossible to be doing something work related every moment of the work day. Some days I am so busy with work stuff I cannot cry, and other days I literally have nothing specifically work related to do.
My arguement is to measure my work. Everywhere I have been in the place I work now, I have made dramatic improvements to the deilvery of services. I always take time with customers and exceed expectations whenever possible. If something goes wrong at 3 am, I am here dealing with it. I work extra hours and go the extra mile on many things so that my supervisors never even hear about it.
So when I am typing on ARFCOM at 2pm when there are no fires to put out and there is no strategic work to be done, don't get upset. The fact is that I don't do the bare minimum to get by. I work my rear-end off at times to make things happen. All this functionality around here does not happen on its own. It happens because I and my team work our tails off to make it happen. Nobody has to tell us what to do or when to do it because we are professionals who always get the job done.
Still, I have run into problems with my supervisors for "non work-related" issues before. Often my supervisor will complain about that, and then go have a 1.5 hour family phone call on the company phone.
Life isn't about fairness or justice. Life is an exercise in dealing with the crap that rolls downhill. If my whole life was tied up in my job, I would be a miserable man indeed.
