I got this letter from the NRA today:

Dear Motown_Steve,

I have just finished a meeting with our researchers to go over our state-by-state presidential and congressional campaign tracking polls. And I have very bad news.

Unless the NRA-PVF can raise additioinal funds to keep out NRA message on the T.V. and radio airwaves in key battleground states across the nation, Senator John Kerry is going to win the presidential election in 43 days!

To prevent this Second Amendment catastrophe, I need to count on you to complete and return the enclosed Direct Deposit Bank Slip to NRA-PVF with your contribution of $28.21 or more today.

Even I don't believe that one!

That's getting pretty desperate. I guess a few folks will buy into it but really, can they honestly expect the informed to fall for that?

my grandpa gets hit up for money all the time by the NRA/barbara bush/ some other republican dudes. he hates it but i guess they make money otherwise they wouldnt do it

Just FYI - the NRA has done mass-mail donation solicitation for over 50 years. In all of that time, they have only lost money on ONE single mailing - and that was the one affected by the postal anthrax scare. Fear-mongering or not, they know what they are doing...

This sounds weird - I've certainly been hit up by the NRA for additional funds before, but a direct deposit bank slip? Whatever happened to a check? Sounds sorta fishy to me.

Not in my experience, FWIW - I've been a Life Member for years and I still get the fund-raising mailings. Not a complaint - just my experience.
