Yep, not a consensus, it's true... The intense light from the sun, when focused through the lens in your eyeball, will burn the retina quite rapidly and permanently....... same as staring at an arc welder... you CAN go blind from doing this.... Kinda suggest you refrain from doin that anymore, m'kay
