A year in the Army in Korea, you do not leave anything unsecured on Camp Henry, slicky boy will carry of your damn boots if you don't keep them close, you bet I slept with a rifle.

Ha ha, someone else who knows of the dreaded slicky boy.  He got a whole company in my battalion put on lockdown for 3 months before their chain of command from captain all the way to platoon sergeants were relieved.

Korea is a very densely populated country.  Most training sites are near villages, and have usually only avoided development or agriculture due to military necessity.  As a result, there is good money to be made for the local teenagers by infiltrating a unit and stealing equipment.  Rifles are RARELY stolen, but NODs are a common target.  They'll also take anything else not bolted down.

Any soldier who has served in Korea is more then used to securing his gear WELL before letting the Z-monster get to him - heck, even when NOT sleeping your NODs are ALWAYS knotted to your uniform.

Yes, in the Med as Duty Chief onboard an SSN.  Slept with a .45 under my pillow, didn't know what to do with it, didn't want to put it back in the small arms locker.

I've never slept with a weapon in the bed. I keep my rifle next to my bed however.

I don't see how some people can sleep with a pistol (much less a pistol with a round loaded) under their pillow. My pillow is rarely in the same position in the morning as it was when I fell asleep the night before.

Have also slept "on" my weapon - M1A1 Abrams - keeps you warm during a cold winter night.

You got that right - I've spent winter nights here in Colorado on the deck of mine (M1A2) with the engine running all night because it was so cold!

And then July nights at Fort Knox where the engine didn't cool off until after midnight, and I burned my knuckles every time I rolled off the sleeping mat...

What good is having a gun if it isn't good to go within a few seconds?

I know people have kids and such, but in that situation I guess I would have it in a lockbox next to bed and unlock it at sleepy time and lock it in the morning, but I wouldn't wanna be fumbling a lock knowing somebody unwanted is in the house....

Probably because a few of us know that we are not good to go for a few seconds

Only once, during the night of the Rodney King riots. Went home at night from work and saw many young men standing out in the street of my neighborhood. I had to weave my car through the crowds to get to my apartment driveway.

Fortunately, common sense prevailed and nothing happened that I was aware of the next morning.

Used to sleep with a 1911 under my pillow. First time I took the current Mrs GoGop to bed, as her head contacted the mattress the .45 slid out and hit her in the head.
I now sleep with my Defender on the headboard, in the exact same spot/position, every night.

I sleep with a loaded weapon every night.

Now, if you discount the heat-seeking moisture missile between my legs that I mentioned above, I've slept with a loaded M16A2, and currently sleep with a Sig P229 wedged between the mattress and boxspring.
