I can't get used to seeing that skinny little stick mag going into the AR-15 lower.  It just looks so out of place.  Maybe it's some sort of veiled sexual insecurity I have.

Don't get me wrong, I bet they're awesome.  I just hate the way they look.

I always thought that the little mag in the big magwell looked kind of funny too.  It also looks like it would be kind of hard to replace the mag under a stressfull situation.  I still want one though.

unless it's on an sbr it's friggin rediculous looking.  why would you want to kick down a door carrying a rifle that throws handgun rounds?

anyone who answers "overpenetration" must recite the ammo oracle in front of the class!

Even SBR's are silly looking.  I just can't stand the way that mag looks in the gun.  And as thelastgunslinger said, mag changes seem like they would be less than graceful unless there is some sort of mechanism to properly guide the mag.  Is there?

No look fine to be.  Actually they look identical.  Are you referring to the magazines?

The need to design a 9mm AR from the ground up, not use .223 lowers but use a 9mm lower with a small mag well.  That would be just like having a .308 AR.  That way you have a gun designed for the ammo, not one that looks like a silly conversion.

Big rifle for a small pistol cartridge.  I want one.

I would also like a Ruger 9mm Carbine.   The anti-gun actions of Bill Ruger, being a traitor to gun owners, is another thread... but the son of a bitch is dead so it doesn't matter.

This is one of the reasons we are getting rid of all of our 9mm SMGs.  They are being traded in in the next few weeks.

That sounds like an Excellent Idea , a 9mm lower that would take Elcheapo mags, so you wouldnt have to buy those High Dollar Mag Adapter's , dont know why BM , DPMS , or the other manufactures havent done it yet  Maybe this will put a Bee in their Bonnet

I'm thinking CavArms would have had this market sewed up by now.  I don't know about the cost of the "molds" but there must be enough interest internationally to swing it.

Just a thought

Yes, I agree. I buy and build all of my weapongs based first upon looks, then function.

For those of you who understand engineering and the actual manufacture of weapons better than myself, is there a manufacturing reason why a 9mm with an appropriately sized mag well HASN'T  already been done?

That's not at all what I'm saying.  I'm simply stating that I think they are silly looking.

Cost!

With a mag insert, a different bolt, barrel, and in some cases, a different hammer, you can use all of the other 5.56 AR parts as well as USING THE SAME RAW MATERIAL AND MACHINERY.  If it was not this way, it wouldn't still be an AR.  If you shortened the receiver to account for the reduced mag profile, the bolt would be too long.  If you shortened the bolt, you'd have to block the recoil spring tube to prevent overtravel, etc...

There are plenty of ground up 9mms out there.  HK 94, UZI, etc...

LeFranc (sp) makes an M16 in .45ACP with a "small" magwell for grease gun type mags.

And still looks silly.

The R&D would not be any more expensive than for an AR-10, but I bet it would sell more units if done right.

I guess it all depends if you are in front of it, behind it, or beside it.  Hopefully you have the choice.
