Well, my question is..

If its on your own property, are hunting regs still in effect?

Not trying to further the previous post, just genuinely curious

Can you take deer with a centerfire rifle if only shotguns are allowed in that county? Are deer eligible to be taken out of season if on your own property? Not much experience in this field, looking for some thoughts/info...thanks

If your land falls within regulations and you have the permits...blast away.  

Yes you have to follow the state-wide regulations, unless the regulations say you don't.
One example is that here in Missouri "landowners" are/were allowed to hunt deer without a permit, and then "farm tag" it. This meant writing out your own tag, attatch it to the deer, and go check it in like everyone else. They still had to follow all the other rules, like buck vs doe, hunting methods, hunting hours, etc.  No free rides.

Remember, wildlife is the state's property, not yours, even if you happen to own the land it's standing on.

So what exactly is illegal about shooting deer with a howitzer? Isn't it just an unweildy shotgun?

Check your state regs.

since the days of commercial hunters...most states use the rule of 10ga for all game animals.

no firearms larger than 10ga. (shotguns or rifles)

BITD of the narly commerical hunters..(my G-Grandpa) was one in Eastern OK. these guys would use outrageous ordinance to sluce damn near everything.

4 to 8 bore shotguns, usually double barrels were the norm. loaded with buckshot. they'd wait until game concentrated and lower the boom.

they used punt guns which were "cannon" mounted on punt boats to absolutely wreck a flotilla of sunning ducks rafting on the waters.

another issue issue the state could charge is "wanton waste".

in most states have laws preventing the excess wasting of game meat.

as far as the landowner regs..

landowners usually have the same laws as nonlandowners, they just might not have to buy the licenses or sometomes the game tags.
