I thought it was either Paper Moon or The Sting, but they were in 1973. It must have been The Poseidon Adventure in 72'.
I feel old. |
Disney's "The World's Greatest Athlete," in 1973. Second movie was "Jaws" in 1975.
Never been a big theater-goer. |
Hmmm, had to be "Herbie Goes Bananas"
although the one I remember best was when my dad took me to see "Star Wars" and kicked off an obsession. ETA: Couldn't have been Herbie Goes Bananas... I just checked IMDB. Maybe Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo? Oh well. Star Wars was what really sticks out anyway. |
"The Blue Max" in a drive-in theatre ... must have been around 1968
Elvis Presley in "Kissing Cousins" or somesuch--he played an astronaut who went home as a hero, and sang to his "cousins." He had MANY beautiful, hot "cousins." I was very young, got sick and puked all through the lobby of the theater as my dad dragged me through it toward the bathroom, on his 3rd weekend visitation. I think it was 1965.

Drive in somewhere in the Philippines age 5. Green Berets with John Wayne. I can still remember watching the flaming man coming out of the downed huey.
Star Wars IV. I was 1.5.
Then it would be Star Trek 2, E.T., Star Wars V, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. |
Jaws, at the Edgewood Theatre on Edgewood Avenue. The theatre is now a small community college.
My Dad took me to see "The Searchers" with John Wayne. It was 1956 and I was 8 years old.
+1 Old Painless, I just watched The Searchers again a few weeks ago. Good movie, incredibly non PC. |
101 dalmations. Though it wasn't in 1960's, was a re-release in late 80's.
1. The Fox and the Hound -- don't remember much about it
2. ET -- scared the HELL out of me when he started getting sick at the end |
I believe it was Disneys 'Davy Crocket and the River Pirates' in 1957 or 58.
My first was "Viva Las Vegas" with my mom.
Second was (I think) "Thunderball", my first Bond movie. |
JAWS!
I think it was five years before I could close my eyes in the bath tube. lol. I never ACTUALLY forgave my sister for that one...... |
I have a copy and watch it now and then. It is a great movie. And you are sure correct about the non-PC-ness of the movie. "Oh Lord, for what we are about to recieve, we give you thanks." |
Holiday Inn w/ Bing Crosby. Movie was made in '42. I saw a rerun with my mom in '52/53 in the local movie house.
I'm an ol' fart! |
I THINK it was the animated version of The Hobbit in 1977, when I was 3.5
The Sound of Music, 1965. It was so long it had an intermission. I remember seing random $.25 movies in town, but this is the first one I actually remember. We had to go to the city to see it.
"Transformers the Movie" I was like 8 and I remember it was "cool" because Optimus Prime cursed in it (I think he said "damn" once). How things change... |
"As Kings Go Forth" - a very good non-muscial film with Sinatra, Tony Curtis, and Nat Woods. Either late 1960 or early '61 at the Sunset Drive-In in Temple, Texas. Car was a '59 Ford country Squire Station Wagon. I was about 4 year old.

'That'll be the day!' Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) The Searchers, 1956. The best Western ever made, IMHO! It was the film in which ALL of the parts of John Wayne's character came together. Note his now-characteristic stance of his left hand holding his right elbow in the closing scene. That was the first time that John Wayne had ever struck that pose, and it was to honor Harry Carey who died in 1947, who often struck that same pose in his movies. His widow was on the set when that scene was shot, as well as his son, Harry Carey, Jr., who played the part of Brad Jorgenson. Harry Carey was the fellow who taught John Wayne his characteristic walk, as well. Another bit of trivia - Ethan Edwards' signature line, 'That'll be the day!', was the inspiration for Buddy Holly's hit song by the same name! Eric The(FullOfIt)Hun |
