pistol= semiautomatic, ammo in magazine

(as opposed to revolver, which has the ammo in the cylinder & sometimes called a 'wheelgun')

Handgun = pistol, revolver, or break-action

So every pistol is a handgun, but not all handguns are pistols

i feel for you man,go with a group and shoot a little bit of everthing and clean only what you brung,kind of like going to a dealrship and test driving everything.

I agree.  Even I don't clean my guns to the point where you can "eat of of it," some Hoppe's and a quick brushing and patches, BAM! I am done.  BUT the NRA recommends only taking one caliber or gauge with you the range to prevent mix-up of ammunition causing a dangerous firearms related accident.
