I'm actually the opposite. I have an unnatural attraction to heights. Not a bravery thing. More like a mental defect. I can't help moving up to the edge to look down. |

not particularly afraid of them but i do get dizzy when confronted with them. That in and of itself gives me the feeeling i am about to fall and i am not real fond of that.

Same with me. Guess that's why I like being on top of chimneys so much. Never could understand how my uncle had a fear of heights but still managed to sweep chimneys. Although I don't have a fear of heights, I do have a fear of falling. ETA: When were you in Okinawa? I was ther from May '86 to July '93. Kadena AB. |

yes and no..
If I'm tied into something, I'm good example: rock climbing, rapelling, skydiving, aircraft actually, I would classify it as fear of falling. |

I was intrigued and apprehensive about heights until my first jump... Then I got scared! Fear keeps a man alive. No fear = fool and complancency = injury or death.

I'm not particularly afraid of heights but I do repect GRAVITY. I've worked 'high steel' construction where the only thing between me and certain death was the 10" beam I was on and a safety belt which isn't attached when moving across the beam.
Hell, I've even jumped out of perfectly good airplanes for fun!! But I never considered either activety to be unsafe. But standing on the edge of a cliff or 'Free climbing' (without a rope or harness) just seems to be tempting the 'dark angel' to take you to the other side..........

Yep. The "scariest" heights I've had were on towers or cliffs. I had no problems with Airborne or my few civilian jumps, but actually being on something like a tower or antenna is the best. I think because the perspective of the structure brings it home very clearly. |

Unfortunately, the guy who took that photo was killed in a climbing fall, a few weeks after that photo was taken, in Boulder Canyon.  He was my best friend. |

Well yes and no. Call it a healthy respect. I worked for a power company in the late 70's and I've been to the top of a 100ft wood pole on a set of hooks and a 175ft steel tower. I'm a telephone repairman now and spend a lot of time on poles and working off ladders. Confidence without respect will get you killed.
