These people gleefully pass any anti-gun legislation, but it takes this long to make necrophilia a crime
(and the last time they brought it up it got stalled in committee!).

Something is seriously wrong with these people.

" SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Having sex with corpses is now officially illegal in California after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill barring necrophilia, a spokeswoman said on Friday.

The new legislation marks the culmination of a two-year drive to outlaw necrophilia in the state and will help prosecutors who have been stymied by the lack of an official ban on the practice, according to experts.

"Nobody knows the full extent of the problem. ... But a handful of instances over the past decade is frequent enough to have a bill concerning it," said Tyler Ochoa, a professor at Santa Clara University School of Law who has studied California cases involving allegations of necrophilia.

"Prosecutors didn't have anything to charge these people with other than breaking and entering. But if they worked in a mortuary in the first place, prosecutors couldn't even charge them with that," Ochoa said.

The state's first attempt to outlaw necrophilia, in response to a case of a man charged with having sex with the corpse of a 4-year-old girl in Southern California, stalled last year in a legislative committee.

Lawmakers revived the bill this year after an unsuccessful prosecution of a man found in a San Francisco funeral home drunk and passed out on top of an elderly woman's corpse.

The new law makes sex with a corpse a felony punishable by up to eight years in prison.

I remember watching a movie on starz or some such channel. It was about a girl who didn't like her men alive. She started working in a funeral home and has some "affairs". So, are we to believe that necrophilia is somehow an improtant enough problem in Kali that a law MUST be passed to prevent it?

Sheesh!

Don't y'all already have laws against 'desecration of a corpse' or some such similar law?

Use that law, if the activity ever occurs, to charge the perpetrator!

The reason it didn't pass the first time was because the lobbyists for a certain protected class wanted to add additional time to the sentence if the victim was a member of said class, and subtract time if the perp was a member.

Amazingly enough, even California legislators saw a problem with this brand of logic.

Smoking in public? Not in restaurants and on some city beaches here (and that is wierd). But then you can't smoke in federal buildings even in North Carolina can you? I kind of like not allowing smoking in restaurants.

Having a gun that looks menacing - AR's, AK's, belt feds, FAL's and many many more are all legal here, in fact I don?t know of one non-NFA firearm who?s possession is banned here. I?ve got a couple of dozen fairly menacing looking weapons in my safe.

On having sex with a corpse ... I haven't seen the bill but would think it gives a longer sentence to someone having sex with a dead body as oppose to someone just stepping on the graves flowers. Like we have longer sentences for someone killing a cop here as oppose to a teacher and put people in jail longer for raping a 4 year old than a 40 year old too. There are some states where vandalizing a plot or the bushes holds the same class of penalty as someone doing the mummy dearest.

It's just seems ironic that there seem to be so many more restrictive firearms laws and an overall attitude of politicians wanting more laws for the public good in California, and then out of the blue, they announce this. Kind of seems like an oversight, or maybe misplaced priorities. Of course, all I know about California is what I read, so I may be full of crap (it has been known to happen)
