I was about 20ft from the door and she held the door open for me for a long time as I walked toward her. I thanked her profusely and then went on with my business. First time that's ever happened to me. What the hell is up with that?

Man, that always bugged me, I hold doors open for people, assuming they're in range, no matter what sex. or age, allthough I might make exceptions for mimes.
Most women don't even bother to look behind them to see if there's anybody just a yard or two back, all they have to do is push the door a little further so I can catch it, but NoooOOOO. <grumble grumble> /Phil |

Phil makes a great observation. I hold the door for anyone who is near. I always smile and look them in the eyes. The only people who don't say thank you are some women. People now get the door for me. I am looking my age and I am enjoying the heckouttavit too.

Reminds me, (beware war story-sorta)...
I was on R&R, in Syndey, and I had always heard that the 'Aussies' were serious about their drinking, so it was a Sunday morning and I heads to the nearest tavern. It's 9am and there was a gaggel of females waiting for the place to open, all standing by the door. When I turned up the walkway, the place had just opened it's doors, but those ladies, seeing me approaching, made a opening, and the one nearest the door, opened it and waited for me to enter first. Man, that was something. I sure enjoyed the feeling. Yes, I did feel it was my duty to buy every one them a beaverage. They were sure nice. Some may say that those 'aussie' ladies saw an 'easy-mark', (young GI), that morning. But my memory, doesn't remember it that way. 34 years ago, and it still makes me smile. |
