Lots of people outside of academia definitely do not have a good handle on the different types (and ranks/importance) of "professors" In my experience, when there's a news story about some "professor" from a university doing or saying something really dumb, 90% of the time, it is NOT a full-time tenured professor. It's usually some "lecturer" (i.e. lowest of the low rank), or even an adjunct - who is not even an employee of the university. |
